Will never happen. Meanwhile decent earners will pay more in state income tax.

No on #2. If you are in the top 10% of La earners (not hard to do) your taxes will go up.

Such a wrong and bad take.

If you don’t want lower income tax rates in LA well just say so don’t spew bullshite.

I’m voting

Y
Y
N
N

On 2 it lowers the income tax rate for every bracket along with making those changes statutory and not constitutional.

I’ll fight like hell with my reps and senators to keep the federal tax deduction if it ever comes up in the legislature. That’s all this amendment does for that is to make it not constitutionally required…..meaning the legislature could vote on a bill to remove it or they could not and it will stay.

On 1….I’ve talked to a bunch of small businesses with business in multiple parishes and they are 100% for it….that’s good for me.

On 3…..simple tax increase no deal

On 4……there is a right way and a wrong way to deal with budget issues….this is definitely the wrong way.

NO on amendment #2.

This amendment effectively removes the federal income tax deduction immediately! despite what misinformation is being spewed on this board.

Act 395 has already been signed into law to remove Federal Income Tax deduction if Amendment #2 is passed.

The higher effective state tax rates from 2017 Tax Cuts & Jobs Act will remain in place if this amendment is passed.

Louisiana will never have a Republican governor again. If you voted yes on 2, you just guaranteed yourself and everyone else in LA higher taxes.

CATS tax is $21,102,000/year for 2.9 million rides. Are we really subsidizing $7.24 for every ride?

THIS IS NUTS!!!

Tax professional here voting yes on all 4. Don’t ever recall doing that before but they all reflect good common sense policy.

According to the PAR guide, if amendment 2 passes, a "corresponding statute would actually eliminate the federal tax deduction."

Help clear this up if you can.

Why? La has too much dedicated spending. Some areas never get cut. This allows 10% of dedicated money to get moved around rather than 5%. Everttine this board fussed about the LA Constitution one of the most consistent complaints is the dedicated money.

Dedicated money is a problem but simply moving it to fix “budgetary issues” doesn’t solve that problem it simply allows govt to spend more money and then move it around later to figure out the budget.

1. Yes
2. Yes - lowering rates and decreasing deductions to offset is generally a good thing to do.

No on the rest.

What about #2? A poster above says the removal of the federal income tax deduction has already passed.

It’s a concern but typically lower rates and less deductions is simply good tax policy.

I’m not sure I agree with Federal Tax policy driving Louisiana’s effective tax rate anyway. I was hit pretty good by LA when Trump’s tax cuts kicked in…..I’m not sure I want to see that happen again. I like something that is predictable no matter what a D or R President does.

ETA Another way to look at it,….LA is one of only three states with any type of deduction of federal tax like this…..am I to believe that LA is one of the 3 smartest guys in the room on this? Doubtful.

ETA2 Another note an R was in office and Trump’s tax cuts weren’t in jeorpardy I’d bet a lot of folks on here wouldn’t be against this……people in general can’t see the forest for the trees.

Same. I didn’t see much of a tax cut from Trump either, and this was a big reason. I was very annoyed by Louisiana tax law and this mitigates that.

3-4 months ago I’d have said absolutely….with inflation out of control now (which is essentially a tax increase in and of itself) I’m not sure Biden and this Congress can politically afford to raise taxes…..it’s why I’m skeptical of BBB getting passed at all now in the Senate.

The tides are trying to turn on this if the LAGOP will let it.

And among them there might very well be a consensus that if Texas doesn’t have a state income tax, and neither do Florida or Tennessee, and Mississippi has just begun to phase out their state income tax, then if Louisiana keeps on with one we are going to be well and truly screwed.

And on that day, that Republican governor and Republican legislature might well agree to go ahead and do what our neighbors are doing and get rid of the state income tax.
