DeSantis calls for new Florida police force to go after election crimes

Gov. Ron DeSantis vowed on Wednesday to create a fully-staffed statewide law-enforcement office whose sole job would be to crack down on election crimes despite previously praising Florida’s smooth 2020 elections and rebuffing calls by members of his own party for an audit,
DeSantis, who is running for reelection and is considered a potential 2024 presidential contender, is also pressing state lawmakers to increase the criminal penalty for violating new restrictions on collecting mail-in ballots. He also wants to enact new deadlines on when local election officials must scrub their voter rolls for people who had died or moved.
“I guarantee you this: The first person that gets caught, no one is going to want to do it again after that,” said DeSantis at a West Palm Beach event billed as a “press conference” but featured dozens of DeSantis supporters who loudly applauded the governor. At one point, the crowd cheered “Let’s go Brandon” — a conservative rallying cry against President Joe Biden.
The governor also said he wants the GOP-controlled Legislature to put additional restrictions on the use of drop boxes.
“I don’t even think we should have drop boxes,” said DeSantis even though he signed the bill two years ago that first authorized their use in the state.
Under the governor’s proposal, Florida would create an “Office of Election Crimes and Security” that would have 25 sworn law-enforcement agents as well as other investigators to probe voter fraud and other election law violations. LINK

Would he support it if this office were run by a democrat?
I kinda doubt it.

Good. I hope he gets it passed and drop boxes removed

Sounds like a good idea initially...
But every law enforcement agency can be corrupted. All it takes is a few Miami condos here and there, a few "donations", a few high class hookers and a few nice cars, and the agency leaders belong to the other team.

Why doesn't every state already have this?

I'm hesitant on this. Mostly because I don't trust agencies like this and how they can be corrupted later on. Wish there was more focus on local police in each precinct doing these investigations.

Vote harvesting is legal and has been a thing for decades. Mail in ballots made it worse

Can't this be accomplished by have a unit in the Florida State Police called the Election Crimes and Security Unit. I mean, is creating more Government really needed to accomplish this goal?

Great idea on the surface but we need less people enforcing the long arm of the law.
Something needs to be done but more people on the public dole is never the answer & if anyone trusts LE these days they don’t deserve liberty.

Agree
And the penalty for election fraud should be death.

The answer is... A republican widower.
Most likely to get caught by election police?
You don't like that? May you walk behind an intestinally distressed camel!

This is a bad idea. Once the first democrat wins the governorship that police force will be part of the cheating process.
