August 19-21st well likely sweep and score 37 runs in that series. Change my mind.

Absolutely. Then we will go back home and be swept by the Twins and Orioles who have 10 wins combined. (one of the games will be closed out by the bullpen catcher) Yuli, Brantley and Altuve will rest the first game after the grueling two hr flight from ATL.

Carlos also gets a rest day with his new team

ASSUMING Correa is gone (Probably probable), does Pena take over SS? I've seen very little of him so I can't say if he'll be good, but this may be the case. I'd like a rundown of him from people who know more than me. Even if we like him I'd LOVE to get Story for cheap, or even Kris Bryant or Marcus Semien if we want to spend more money.

Idk if we want to look at CF, but I am more than fine with grooming Jake Meyers in the spot. I always thought he was solid as frick.

I dont know what we do with Graveman. I would love to keep him but if not, I think Melancon or Iglesias would be great.

I think our SP is okay with Lance, Framber, Garcia, and even Urquidy, but we need to sign a good one here, particularly a veteran. Whether we resign Verlander, or get like a Jon Gray, Gausman, Stroman, Rodon, I think it's a must we get at least one.

Overall we have important decisions to make, but the only players I would be somewhat upset that we lose are Correa and Verlander. Graveman can be replaced.

Overall, I think we do well in free agency/trades. We have a ton of money off the books and we'll have some players look to sign with us IMO. Looking forward to adding some good talent in the offseason, and I think it leads us to another great 2022 with another great run in the postseason again.

Wonder if yall agree or disagree with any of this.

Can we resign Greinke as a first baseman? Yuli at third and get Bregman on Slim fast so he can play short…would be fun

Nope. No. He is mediocre at best away from Coors. (ETA: .972 OPS at home, .752 OPS away in his career.)

If you mean really REALLY cheap, then maybe.

I actually expect him to accept the QO and play into another free agent deal.

Was anybody else bothered by the Snitker factor in the WS? Our hitting falls of the cliff when playing our hitting coach's father for all the marbles.

I don't know much about Pena but I think we will be our shortstop. We have got to have another starter. Current rotation is good enough to win the division but I think we need another to make a run in the playoffs. And I don't think we sign another starter and a bat. We know who the top 6 will be in the lineup and a 7-9 of Myers, Pena, and Maldy is still a very formidable lineup.

No, he didn't go out there and swing the bat (or not) for them.

Pena's offensive minor league numbers aren't too far off from Meyers, just a smaller sample size. Both could be solid contributors, but Pena needs to cut down on the strikeouts. The scouts love his defense, though, which would be nice if we lose Correa.

Betcha the front office kicks the tires on Chris Taylor. Marwin-esque utility payer that you can put at any position that needs temporary filling who also isn't an auto out with the bat. Probably could be had for a fairly cheap, 2 year deal with options for additional year.

I think he’s going to get at least 3 probably 4 years and 15-16 mil a year. Every team can use a guy like that

Yeah, I see Taylor getting a pretty good deal because of his versatility. His high strikeout numbers don't really fit the Astros' mold, but that can probably be overlooked.

Gonna be a shitty off-season. The impending lockout is gonna grind things to a halt and very few moves will happen. Once Dec 1 hits and there is no new deal in place all MLB activities cease.

Completely agree.

I just hope the sides can get to an agreement before we miss real games.

I think it will delay spring training at minimum and may delay the start of the season. It's clear the players union know they bent over the past two deals and took the big one and they will be trying to get back a lot.

So many things will likely be up for grabs:

Universal DH
3 batter minimum for relievers
Extra innings rule
Roster sizes
Luxury tax threshold
International draft?
Tanking (salary floor being raised)
Expansion
Team control /years or player age to become a free agent

Versatile - yes, but it comes with so-so defense everywhere. And his bat is good, but also comes with questions. And he is 31. I just dont think any team will view him as an everyday starter 3+ years down the line which might limit his offers. For reference, Marwin got 2 years in the low $20mm/year when he left the Stros and I believe he was still under 30. Is Taylors versatility, bat and age now as well regarded as Marwin's was when he was after his Astros tenure?

Taylor has more power and being able to play CF at an average level is a big deal. I would be very surprised if he got a similar deal to Marwin. Maybe Taylor only gets 3 years because of the age but I think he gets quite a bit more money. We will see. He would be a perfect fit for the Astros, not sure how much he cares about the sign stealing stuff in relation to his free agency
