Anyone on here have experience with PK charcoal grills?

I'm in the market for a new charcoal grill. I've always been a Weber grill guy but have been looking at PK grills.

Looking at the PK 360. Curious if it's worth the price.

Even their original grills vs. Weber

I've had the original PK for almost 15 years, only had to replace the grates, the aluminum body looks just like it did the day I got it. holds heat well, only real complaint is that small cooking area, just makes cooking for large groups a little more difficult. PK 360 might have a larger area, so it might not be a problem though.

Cooking area is a concern of mine also. I think the 360 is a little bigger but it's also $800.

My plain old 22in weber is now needing to be replaced after 16 years.

From what I've heard, the PK Grills last forever, and the Webers only a couple of decades. But the Weber is cheaper and has more accessory options

Both cook great, as I understand it. One flaw with the PK Grill is that the top of the grate is flush with the side of the grate, so if you try to slip a spatula under the food, you can push it off the grill onto the ground. Minor complaint, though, but it's all I got.

I think they fixed that issue.

Been looking up YouTube stuff on them. The aluminum seems to last forever, something my kids could use when I'm six feet under.

Have both the original and the 360. They both perform similarly but the 360 is the more refined of the two. Meaning no gaps between dome and base, vents move more smoothly, stainless grates stock, and large side shelve on the 360 (and the 360 is better looking IMO). Up to you if thats worth the extra cost. I prefer using the original because its easier to clean out the ash. If youre interested in the original, pull the trigger fairly soon. Theyre replacing it with the new PK300.

I used to own a kettle and I prefer the cook quality on the PK. The thicker aluminum walls hold and radiate heat better than weber. Same effect as BGE's ceramic walls but to a lesser extent.

It’s a great grill. I have two eggs, a kettle, and the PK. I use the pk for burgers and chicken. Eggs for low and slow, and the kettle at the camp for everything there.

The pk is probably 40 years old. Still works like new. New wheels and grates. I’ve done low and slow on it. Works great in all cooking and will outlive my kids.

I have the PKTX. I bought it so I can fold it up and put it in the storage compartment on my fifth wheel. The PK grills are quality cookers that will last forever. Almost all the guys that compete in steak cooking competitions use them. I also have a 22” Weber kettle with the Slo N Sear insert that I keep at my fishing camp. I honestly can’t say that I like one more than the other. You can’t go wrong with either one.

My gas grill rusted through after a few years. I made the switch to charcoal and haven't looked back.

I have a PK original. As other posters have said its cooking space is limited. I usually cook for the wife and I; maybe a few friends for a guys night. So the cooking space hasn't been too much of an issue for me. Its probably maxed out for my cooking needs. Other than that I enjoy using it and its holding up solid. Might have to replace the grate next summer but the aluminum housing looks like the day I bought it.

My father had a PK (from E TX) when I was a kid...the grates rusted out and we used expanded metal for years. He gave it away when I was a young adult. I was looking at komodo grills when I stumbled across the PK (from little Rock, AR) and decided I'd purchase that instead. No regrets, I have since purchased my father another one and we have a third one at the camp. They will outlive me! I need to purchase a set (or 3) of stainless grills to have on hand when the original grills eventually give up the ghost. I have cooked hot/fast and low/slow on the PK, it does it all. My only complaint is the cart could be about 2-3 inches taller and, if you are cooking larger meats (brisket) space is tight. The PK is one of those items - if I had to replace it, I'd get the same thing! I don't think you can go wrong with either the PK or the 360...for me familarity with the original PK and price was a major consideration.

That said, $800 for an old skool charcoal grill is bonkers. Will it really make food that much better than a smokey joe???

I’ve got one and really like it. The only complaint is that I would like it to be a little bigger.
But it is worth the money and made even better with a set of grill grates.

I have three including the original and the 360. I won the 360 in a Facebook contest. Don't under estimate the smoker\slow cooker aspect. Cleanup and ash removal are cons.
The 3rd one was inherited from my father and is 50+ years old.

I like how they look, but the price is steep. A Weber Performer is half the price. Unless you need the portability I would say the Weber is the clear winner.
