Napier is an up and coming coach who is not ready for a job like LSU.
I swear this fan base is retarded.
The dude turned down Auburn, South Carolina, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and Baylor
Everyone else seems to think he’s ready to take over at a P5 school

Everyone thinks we’re in the elite class and can steal an elite coach from an elite position. It doesn’t work like that all the time. Franklin was the best we had a realistic shot at. And we tried to get him.

Napier was lead recruiter on Cam Robinson and Landon Collins IIRC

These guys are hiding their tears and still hanging onto hope that Day, Riley, etc will make a lateral move into a tougher conference at a school with a lot of problems thanks to the last two coaches
They don’t get that Kiffin, who is probably banging an Ole Miss sophomore rn, won’t be allowed to coach at a school with tons of title IX problems
Or that Fickell is content at Cincy and is doing what Napier is doing, holding out for a better job offer in a place he wants to be
I won’t even touch on Franklin and his reputation in the industry

Fickell is gone this offseason. You are crazy if you think he’s not the head coach at LSU or USC next year. The only question will be whether the USC AD being the AD who hired him at Cincy, is enough to put them ahead of us. There is no chance Fickell turns these two jobs down.

Largest recruiting budget = best recruiting class. Ask bama and uga

Then I must be crazy because he’s not leaving Cincinnati
ETA: they will pay him whatever to stay there. They’re not just a good AAC program. They’re going to the Big 12 and may be in the playoff this year.
Why go to USC and have to restart? LSU is tempting but he’s never operated in the south and will have a better chance to get into the playoffs at Cincinnati. He’s only leaving for ND or tOSU

I agree, it may just be #1 in the Sunbelt but it is all relative. He is recruiting at UL (not an easy place to recruit) and his competition is the Sunbelt.
Besides, out of the 3 realistic hires, Mel Tucker, Dave Aranda, or Napier, he checks the most boxes. Best recruiter, Most success and experience as a college HC, not a cartoon figure, No big buyout.

I really don't want Franklin between his only okay results at Penn State and the sheer amount of Title IX smoke there is with him, but fwiw he was definitely called by Woodward in week 2. I am pretty confident that the 247 insiders report that he used it as leverage to get facilities he wanted built are accurate given his history and who he is as a person. At some point he'll leave because he'll never be related to Joe Paterno or completely white which are both big deals to a not negligible portion of the Penn State fanbase, but I doubt it will be here. In general I don't like him because he feels like another Miles. He'll recruit with the best of them, he'll occasionally get a weirdly good class that will compete for a national title when they're ~Juniors, he'll drop some rivalry games for headscratchingly bad clock management, and the median season is a Citrus bowl. Not bad, but also not exciting for how much $$$$ it'll take to pull him away.
And for the record other fans, this is what a poachable headcoach at an elite program looks like. They need to be having a problem with something that matters to them. Woodward got Chris Petersen because he's a much bigger family man than the typical college coach and he wanted to be close to a top rate research hospital for family reasons. Woodward got Jimbo because Jimbo's FSU situation was a slightly milder version of Franklin's situation (couldn't get facilities because their old legendary headcoach didn't need new facilities so you shouldn't either).
The realistic top 3 barring some behind the scene shenanigans we can't possibly know like Oklahoma having a Gus-Steele situation are Napier, Aranda, and Tucker. That's also my rough order of preference, though honestly all 3 would win a lot at LSU. Also maybe Mark Stoops, but I assume there are contractual reasons why his name isn't really coming up even though his results should put him in the second tier of candidates.

Even for the best coaches, it is really hard to sustain success at a program like Cincinnati. He might have a couple of average years and his entire shine wears off. You have to be smart and strike while the iron is hot.

Sunbelt doesn't say much but Napier was a very good recruiter when he was at Bama. I'd argue outside Saban he was their best on the staff. He definitely was an elite recruiter.

True but you could argue on their staff he was the best one outside Saban when he was there.

What a moronic post. You want any coach to be the best, or among the best, at his level.

Fickell has the No. 1 recruiting class in the entire Group of 5. And doesn’t struggle against 1-6 teams and beat Top 10 ND by double digits.
You make a riley solid point. I riley like Fickell.

Hester is selling the sun belt hard now. It’s happening
Does anyone think Auburn is laughing at the Sun Belt? They were absolutely getting their shite kicked in by 2-4 GA St before a blocked punt late in the 3rd turned the game around. Then Auburn turned around and embarrassed LSU in Tiger Stadium. There was absolutely nothing to indicate Auburn was turning it around until that block. GA St was whipping Auburn on both LOS.
The point is there is more parity in CFB right now than anytime I can remember. There are a lot of good G5 schools now and even the bad ones are capable of wrecking P5 schools if they are overlooked.
