would the narritive around these two be reversed? Is being the coach of a local, mostly hated school hurting Napier's candidacy? I think it is. What say you?

agreed...I think Napier would do well at LSU...he just seems boring to some fans that want more personality.

Well, most people on this LSU board don’t think of ULL as much more than a community college, so yeah that is probably reflected on this board. This board however, is not reflective of how real life works.

Well, Cincy is a better job, so if everything else is the same, of course the narrative would be reversed. That has nothing to do with "hating" ULL.

I’ll take the football junkie over the personality. I too think he’d do a great job.

I’ll bite…

Napier would win big at Cinci, just as pretty much every Cinci coach wins a lot at Cinci. That program is set up for success being in Ohio with their schedule/conference

Fickell would probably not do as well at ULL as Napier has. No logic behind me thinking this, just a hunch

Gun to my head, I think Napier is the better coach. Don’t really know why I think that tho. I’m just not as enamored with Fickell as most are…I compare Cinci to Houston…pretty much any coach with a pulse can win at those programs. At both Houston and Cinci, it’s really hard to know if it’s the coach or the program that drives the success. Clearly at ULL based on their history, the coach is driving the recent success, nothing to do with the program itself.

To sum up, Fickell may very well be the next big thing. But it’s also very possible IMO he’s winning at a program that is fairly easy to win at. It’s just really hard (maybe even impossible) to really know if it’s Fickell, or it’s the program driving the success.

If he could win the Sunbelt, I would be sold on him.

Napier is going to be a head coach at a major program one day. He’s already turned down Auburn.

And neither do any of the countless idiots who are obsessed with Napier yet they’re all on here everyday saying he would win big here. The guy has made some absolute bonehead in game decisions, and none of these clowns who want him have ever watched a game he’s coached. Hudspeth had success when he took over too, but I bet none of y’all wanted him. The obsession with this guy is ridiculous at this point

Napier is downgraded because of his affiliation with USL.

In the eyes of many, there is nothing that’s worth a shite coming from USL, especially a FB coach.

No matter if that USL football coach has coached under Saban, is organized snd runs a program like Saban, has never lost a conference divisional game, beaten a top 15 program in ISU with USL level players, oh and also turned down multiple other SEC openings in the last couple of years.

Yep, Napier sucks. Let’s go get Kiffin and all the bullshite they comes with it.

That’s exactly what the program needs another character with personality.

Butch Jones was successful at Cincinnati. It’s just one of those programs that have been set up for success and can easily get Ohio State’s in-state leftovers.

Dantonio and Brian Kelly set up Cincinnati for long term-success. Every coach since has kept the status quo or raised the bar.

It’s the same with Harsin in Boise imo. Chris Peterson did that. Napier is the Chris Peterson.
