So you think a combined 14-12 record at Colorado and Michigan State are good enough for LSU?

If that's what matters, then Mel is out.

What has he done? I don't want Lane Kiffin, either, but Lane has a better resume than Mel.

He's fine as a 3rd or 4th choice

For starters he has a 14-12 record as a HC. We're firing a national championship winning coach for going 9-8, i.e., slightly above .500 won't cut it.

Mel tucker is OUT!

Have we not explained this?

He has one full season as a coach. He went 5-7.

Last season in a shortened season he went 2 and 5.

This year he is having a nice season, but has not beaten a single team with a winning record and is likely about to catch 4-5 losses to finish his 2nd full season.

How??

How is even a 3rd or 4th choice? Is this not fricking LSU?

I don't understand how he is even a valid option whatsoever.

My biggest issue with Mel Tucker is that it feels like hiring a black dude because he's a black dude. There are more qualified candidates than him.

If Mel Tucker was a white dude who would even be entertaining to idea of hiring a 14-12 overall HC?

What other major football program would have a President on the record asking for a minority hire? I hate the politics in this state.

Bottom line is he isn’t qualified computed to the other coaches!! Go ahead make that woke hire LSU!! We all know why he is candidate!! Hire him please.. He’s a good coach but he ain’t got the it factor or the wins other coaches have that LSU is looking at!!

Last year he had no spring ball, got hired in late Feb/early March. Completely rebuilt the roster. From where Dantonio left that program, 7-0 is a hell of a start. He’s got Michigan, Ohio St, Purdue, Penn St still on the schedule. If he goes 10-2 this season, he should probably be #1 in my opinion.

There are better options out there. Definitely should be on the search but not as a top 3 target at this juncture.

Because it wouldn't be a hire based on who is the most qualified. It would be based on his race. Luke Fickell is the obvious choice.

It's funny to me that some say we don't want him, because he is black. Yet, if he was white literally no LSU fan would want him at this point in his career. Those same people defending him would be against the idea of him based off his short career and overall record.

I prefer someone far more proven. Some try to compare him to Napier in terms of being unproven, but even at that, at least Napier is 33-12. Way more games and far superior overall record. I am not at all wanting Napier though.

His attention to detail and process reminds of Saban.

Many say this about Napier as well. Still prefer LSU goes a different direction.

His resume is good. He would have to be a late hire to see what he does against the good teams at the end of his schedule this year. Let's face it, his record as a head coach is not good. The problem with hiring him late if he succeeds is the early signing period. Personally, I don't think he will leave Michigan State.
