Turkey farmers warn that labor shortages could lead to Thanksgiving woes

LINK

Some turkey farmers are warning that the labor shortage currently wreaking havoc in many industries could also disrupt traditional American thanksgiving meals.

Multiple farmers told CBS 2 Chicago this week that a sharply reduced labor pool may significantly hinder farmers’ ability to get turkeys onto dinner tables in November.

Government official says not to worry:

A USDA spokesman, meanwhile, told media this week that an overall turkey shortage was unlikely and that there are turkeys “in abundance” throughout the country.

The stratospheric unemployment benefits package that many states utilized until very recently have contributed to a labor shortage. Based on the data from the states that ended those programs early, it takes about 2 months for the labor market to adjust once those benefits end. They did not end for many states until Sept 4th.

Guess I'll eat something else if I can't find one. It's what the Pilgrims would have wanted.

Of course. what else is new in Biden's America. I bet my thanksgiving dinner costs $1600 more than last year.

When Gov is proven wrong they will blame Trump. Then they will put out some corny PSA about how chicken is better for Thanksgiving dinner because the greenhouse gases are lower.

Crawfish prices only go up. And literally everything makes crawfish prices go up. If it's too hot, crawfish prices go up. If it's too cold, crawfish prices go up. If LSU beats Bama, crawfish prices go up. If they lose to Ole Miss, crawfish prices go up. If you fart too loudly, crawfish prices go up. If there is a Tsunami in Japan, crawfish prices go up.

So basically every other food out there is now correlated with crawfish prices.

Thinking about this....south Louisiana is already prepared for the empty meat shelves that have become more common in the past few months. Lots of incredible dishes out there that can stretch how far a relatively small amount of meat can go to feed a larger group (Gumbo, Jambalaya, etc.).

And in most cases, the leftovers taste even better.

People who panic of turkeys at thanksgiving crack me up. It doesn’t mean shite, it’s food. Eat something else.

The farmers never said they were not turkeys. They said there aren’t workers to harvest them.
