Are jeans acceptable to wear to a wake?

You'll get some snooty responses, but do you think the person who passed really cares what you are wearing? We buried my grandpa in what he wanted, which was what he wore every day, blue dickies mechanic shirt and pants. Plenty of people came to pay respects right out of work, one guy even brushed himself outside before coming inside. But ya know what? They showed up to pay respects to a friend, and I can respect that.

Of course. I've been to a wake in my work clothes. It's not a formal event. Now the funeral, that's different.

I think you can wear pretty much whatever you want. Just don't look like you're on a discount pass at Six Flags.

I wear a coat and tie to wakes, but if you are coming or going to work its okay to wear your work clothes. But if you are that type of person.. Jeans are okay.. I guess.

I once saw members of a "bike gang" at a wake. They had on jeans and their leather jacket with all their patches.
