AL.com
I’ve always desired to do like Quentin Tarantino and buy a movie screening venue and showcase classic movies.

After 38 years, Ralph Freehaus is ready to roll credits on his career in the movie theater business. “I think it’s time for me to retire and let the internet experts take over for me,” says Freehaus, who owns Cinemagic Theatre in Athens. He tells AL.com he put Cinemagic up for sale about a week ago. The Cinemagic parcel is about four acres. It includes a single drive-in screen with drive-in capacity for around 80 automobiles, as well as an indoor theater with five screens, 722 seats and roof-mounted solar panels that provide about 25 percent of the theater’s electricity. The asking price is $1. 75 million.

I feel like we have the tech to do drive-ins even better now with wi-fi/bluetooth whatever. Don't have to install speakers in parking lots, just have people connect to the audio with a passcode that comes with the ticket purchase or something. And the patrons can get the BJ during the movies like the good old days without the movie theatre judging you.

Or you could sneak in your cheap friends by stuffing them in the trunk.

Bluetooth only goes a few feet effectively. Also, processing delays could render some vehicles having out of sync audio. I can’t even listen to YouTube from my iPhone in perfect sync.
Small FM transmitters on the other hand work great for Drive In Movie Theatres and in some places use this in addition to the speaker on the window..

Nothing like smuggling 5 kids in the trunk to watch a Disney Movie and one hour later catching 5 kids watching sex on the other screen at the drive-in

There is a drive in theater in a little town Monetta SC called The Big MO that does this. They have a particular frequency you dial to and listen through your radio. It's pretty cool when the weather is nice

My mom was so opposed to this I could have gotten away with shoplifting easier. It was a cardinal rule at our house.

Unlike the old days, everything about drive in movie theaters would be because of......
Can you imagine the shootings? Trash on the ground? Cars parked in two spaces. etc etc etc
no thanks.

Same here. Been wanting to do it in BR for a few years. Never in Alabama. Looking for a good mid city venue.

The future of “movies” will look more like float tanks where you can get an immersive experience. In reality, it’ll just smell like biscuit mix and bad fish.

I'm thinking of the people killing each other with CO because they refuse to turn off their cars. Can't live without that A/C.

I was actually thinking about it when it said Athens. But no when I saw it wasn’t Georgia

I've lived in Athens 25 years of my life and had no idea it existed. It's 7.2 miles from my house.

What about running down the car battery?

Thats what they have at the one in midland texas. Or it may go through a fm transmitter. Cant remember. But I watched a few movies in 2017 from my truck on the lease road next to it.

They just built a drive in theatre in Cleveland ms that does this

That would be rad to show grindhouse and other cult films. I've toyed with the idea of opening a small, single-screen theater. I think the key is introducing a new social element to the experience because, as others have mentioned, they could simply just watch at home.

If you show the right movies, the people who come will be well behaved, If you show trashy movies, expect the worst.
