The drive in just across the state line from me in Alabama uses a FM station for movie audio.

I thought I had read some time ago that re-engining was uneconomical because the AF had a huge inventory of spare TF33s.

It’s not the same, never will be. My son has a elaborate home theater complete with popcorn machine, he still goes to local movie houses for new releases,

That would be rad to show grindhouse and other cult films. I've toyed with the idea of opening a small, single-screen theater. I think the key is introducing a new social element to the experience because, as others have mentioned, they could simply just watch at home.

If you do it project from actual film, not the digitized hard drive versions, lot of people will pay a premium for that.

Seems like you'd also pay a premium to do it: purchasing and maintaining a 35mm projector, renting and shipping 35mm print reels, finding a distributor that actually stores and rents prints, etc.

If you show the right movies, the people who come will be well behaved, If you show trashy movies, expect the worst.
