I’m not talking about bands before you were alive, but more so maybe you were in to a different genre at one point and then years later your musical styles and likes had changed.

I recently stumbled upon a group from Texas called Bedhead.
quote:

“ Allmusic dubbed the group "the quintessential indie rock band.”
Yet I had never even heard of them.

This thread isn’t as much to introduce you to Bedhead, I’m sure I’m in the minority of those that had never heard of them before, but a place to talk about bands that you or others may not have known about, and unfortunately since they aren’t around anymore, all you can to is dig their past catalogs.

I was born in 1968. By the time I was a teenager I wanted to be OZZY and was into heavy metal, Black Sabbath, early Crue, etc... In 1985, my uncle moved to HOU and gave me his Marantz turntable, Advent speakers, Harmon Kardon receiver, and vinyl collection. Listed to some ELP and was blown away by their musical style with synthesizer keyboards and guitars

Spirit. The original lineup, anyway.

Not precisely on point, but I didn't get further than Man in the Box as far as AIC catalogue until a short while after Layne Staley died.

So, I think that's fairly close.

I used to go see Bedhead play at small places in Dallas.

A couple bands I discovered after they broke up are
The Figments

and Pinebender

My Bloody Valentine

I was 18-20 years old when Isn't Anything and Loveless came out. Somehow, never heard of them until about 15 years ago but they're one of my favorite bands.

There were a few bands that I never gave a chance. I had a chance to see Metallica on their "Master of Puppets" tour and said "Naw. I don't understand." And ironically, now I only like "Ride" and "Masters".

Bauhaus, but they split when I was 12. In 1985 I found Love and Rockets and worked my way back from there.

Jellyfish. Not sure exactly how I missed them. I love their music. Especially the album Spilt Milk.

I just learned that Chromatics broke up a month or so ago. That was a bummer.

I also happened to play an Xbox 360 game called Prey a few months ago. (You can guess by the console generation how into gaming I am.) There was a song over the credits by the band After Midnight Project that really got to me, which was strange because all that is just not my thing:

After Midnight Project - "Take Me Home"

Looking them up while hoping to uncover their rest of their catalog, I was disappointed to discover they had broken up in 2012.

Already mentioned: Jellyfish. Absolutely brilliant band at the absolute wrong time in music history. Kinda like Big Star was.
