Ben Whishaw 'Would Like to See' an Openly Gay Actor Play James Bond Next

With Daniel Craig's 15-year run as James Bond coming to an end with No Time to Die, Bond franchise actor Ben Whishaw has some suggestions for who can play the iconic spy next.
Whishaw, 40, who starred as Q, head of the British Secret Service's Q Branch, in the films Skyfall and Spectre, will reprise his role in No Time to Die. The actor told Attitude his thoughts on a gay actor taking over the role.
"God, can you imagine? I mean, it would be quite an extraordinary thing," Whishaw — who is openly gay — said of casting a gay Bond. "Of course I would like to see that. I really believe that we should be working towards a world where anyone can play anything and it would be really thrilling if it didn't matter about someone's sexuality to take on a role like this."
He added, "I think that would be real progress. But we'll see, we'll see where we're at. I'm amazed by how much has changed just in the last five or six years, so we'll see."
As for who he would pick to take on the role next, Whishaw replied, "There aren't many out gay British actors. It's quite hard to say, isn't it?"
When the Attitude interviewer suggested Luke Evans or Bridgerton's Jonathan Bailey, Whishaw agreed, describing both men as "wonderful actors" who "would be really capable of doing it and would be ideal casting."
I'd rather see a Eurasian Muslim with six wives play Bond but that's just me.

Why not trans? Ben is clearly transphobic.

I hope they do it. Why not? Don't change your story because of the bottomline, tell "YOUR TRUTH".

Until recently, we lived in that world. Does this person really believe homosexuals don't play heterosexuals? Now we are moving towards a world where your gender, race, and culture has to match the character you are voicing in animated shows.

With his love interest being Pecker Galore.

I’m convinced that everyone involved with this franchise is just trolling at this point

I don’t understand the need to change James Bond to something he’s not or into another race or gender. Just create a new spy franchise.
The reality is they need the Bond name to make the movies successful.

Are we? Folks are having a thermonuclear shite fit that Nintendo/Illumination hired Chris Pratt to voice Mario in the upcoming Mario animated film.
Voice casting is progressively moving towards only being considered for casting if you are in real life, the same color/gender/species as whatever you are seeking to give a voice to.
He only believes "anyone can play anything" when it suits his desired outcome... in this case, wishing for a queer Bond.

To be honest Luke Evans would not be a bad choice to play Bond:

Change Bond's name to Jamie, and have an amorphous actor play the part.

Can you imagine a gay Bond basically raping a man on screen!? God, let’s get this train moving already!
Posted on 9/29/21 at 12:20 pm to BradPitt
How about we let the best actor for the role play the role and end it at that?
Posted on 9/29/21 at 12:22 pm to BradPitt
I guess it would make the requisite "Bond, James Bond" introduction a lot more flamboyant. But seriously, Whishaw should gfh.

If only trans people can play trans characters, and only gay people can play gay characters, then only straight, white males should be allowed to play straight, white male characters.

I’m fine with an openly gay actor playing James Bond. But James Bond is a straight man. Separate the character from the actor. Let the gay actor act like a straight man. Since when did acting become not about acting? Now trans people have to act as trans people, gay people have to act as gay people, etc

I mean, the actor can be gay. But bond isn’t gay.

I suppose Whishaw only has good things to say about Mickey Rooney in Breakfast at Tiffany's then:
