If you don't have your CCP license, get it.

And carry. Every day.

If you haven't seen the news about the shooting in Collierville, TN. Yesterday a disgruntled worker at the local Kroger shot 13 and killed one.

This is my home. I shop at this Kroger as do my wife and kids, friends, etc.

It took the police 4 minutes to get there from the 1st call, so, if you figure it took someone 1 minute to get to safety and then call, let's say 5 minutes.

5 minutes is an eternity. By the time the police got there, the guy had already emptied his gun and killed himself.

No one in the store had a gun, or if they did, they ran.

13 victims.

Get a gun, learn how to shoot it, and carry it.

ALWAYS

I would also suggest liability insurance for CCP.. It's cheap and will up to $1m in legal fees should you ever need it.

I broke my damned holster today. I have to carry the hand cannon now. I've grown accustomed to my micro compact and now it feels like I have a howitzer strapped to my hip.

But yes, it's called "every day carry" because you must carry every day. Even if you're just going to go get the mail or make a run to the grocery store. You never know when someone might snap. Also, insurance is a must. It's a few hundred bucks a year for piece of mind and immediate legal advice and representation if the unthinkable happens. After I call 911 and tell them I've been assaulted, there's been a shooting, and I need two ambulances and police, I'm hanging up on them and before the police arrive, I will be speaking to the attorney who is going to come help my arse.

I don't have a CCP and have dumb question.

How/where would I carry (Glock 27) in the summer when I mostly wear athletic shorts and a T shirt?

There are many companies that provide this service.

Here's a very comprehensive chart showing what each does and does not provide. For instance, if you're single and don't have monthly notes to keep up with, maybe one of the companies that doesn't cap the cost of your legal defense but also doesn't pay you a daily stipend for the days you're out of work is a good choice. For the guy who has three kids, a wife, two car notes, and a mortgage, maybe selecting the option that lets him accept a cap on his defense costs so he gets the per diem to keep the family afloat is the right option. Other than those big concerns, some options let you pick your own attorney and others force you to use their attorney. Using their attorney ain't so big a deal if the attorney is well known and is an expert, but maybe it's a big fricking deal if nobody knows the dude and he loses all his cases. You need to be picking the option best for you and your situation.

I got some in 2020 when all the protests were going on. 15 bucks a month for peace of mind.

You'll have to wear real shorts with a belt, no getting around that. I carry a P229 year round, absolutely must have a belt to do that.

For stretchy shorts, you must have an ultralight gun.

Just don't buy from CCW Safe (You have to use one of their attorneys, or get them to approve any attorney you pick on your own).

I have ACLDN (I have trained with most of their advisory board members and I trust all of them. Massad Ayoob, Tom Givens, John Farnam, Dennis Tueller, et al.). Best insurer for expert witnesses. Members have access to their list of attorneys in all 50 states (You might not be in your home state when you need to defend yourself) - in case you don't already have an attorney you prefer to use. Seven self-defense DVD's and book written by Ayoob when you join, plus monthly Journal.

I also have a policy w/ USCCA. Belt & suspenders. I can use my attorney, and can also get their opinion on an out-of-state attorney if that need were to arise.

If you live in LA, be prepared for a LONG for your CHL to be mailed to you.

And carry. Every day.

Sage advice, bbvdd. I'm on a weekend vacation and missed the story. I've been waiting over 4 weeks for my LA renewal. I was billed over 4 weeks ago, but haven't received it yet. I did the electronic renewal and payment for my next door neighbor as a favor so he wouldn't have to go the paper route. He's in the same boat as me. The CHL website says mine is "being reviewed" and I've not found an email address for them. Haven't had the chance to carve out an hour or so from schedule to call them.

Sorry, but my gun is for me and mine. If I have to use it to get away, then fine, but I'm not getting in a gunfight in a crowded grocery store unless I have to protect myself or my family
