Member when IB Screamin said the new airport would be a disaster? Haven’t had any issues the dozen or so times I’ve been through.

DFW for starters

I don't think MSY should be included amongst "large" airports. I think of those as much bigger hub type airports (like DFW, which I think may be one of the best of those).

This baffles me. Its a beautiful airport and I will admit things are better since it first opened, but there are major design flaws that cause congestion in foot traffic and reduce efficiency. Maybe its just my engineer mindset, but these sorts of issues should not occur in a brand new airport.

The path to and from the parking garage should not cross the street where people are dropped off by vehicles. Theres no point for those paths to cross. Most large airports, including the old terminal, have the path from the parking garage to the terminal on a different level than the street entrance/exit level. Even the Baton Rouge airport has this. Currently, vehicles have to yield to pedestrians walking to and from the parking garage. I've seen traffic build up at the airport entrance as vehicles are waiting for pedestrians to cross. This inefficiency also increases the chance of someone being struck by a car which I'm sure the injury attorneys love.

Another foot traffic issue is between the TSA checkpoint and the terminal. The path becomes narrow in front of the stores and that also happens to be the same place where people leaving the airport cross paths with those headed to their gate. If they would remove that damn Starbucks there would be more space, but the path design there is still ridiculous.

Airport designs took these things into consideration 50 years ago, I'm not sure why the new MSY put little emphasis on reducing these inefficiencies.

Not that the actual Midway Pizza is anything special but the meal I had at the airport Midway might have been the worst airport meal I’ve ever had

It's so strange that they got an airport concession. I can't figure out how their real location stays in business.

The airport is great. The city itself is a dying shithole.

the airlines there suck at checking bags

Haven't had this issue with Southwest which is the only airline I've flown recently with checked bags.

the security folks fricking suck too.

TSA sucks everywhere... but I've never had to wait longer than 15 min and I don't have precheck or anything.

maybe it's just the early flights. I'm usually on 6AM-ish flights...

It's wonderful how Google can't even figure out how to get to it since they didnt think to build a goddamn off ramp from the interstate like every other airport in the US.

People are probably just happy that is the only place you cant get shot in NOLA.

Maybe they should run the parade route past the parking deck.

>It's not a bad airport.
Arrival pick-up can get a little congested. Getting to it from I-10 is navigable with low-medium IQ. Long term parking rates are river-piracy.

That one white TSA pre-check agent with the forearm tattoo that waves you through the metal detector is out to get me. He knows I’m always packing a tincture.

It's a great airport. I've been in many.

Haven't flown through it in a while, but I assume they've moved the rental facility closer? That was a brutal shuttle. Only complaint I had.

They aren't. There is a separate category for airports like DFW/ORD/ATL etc.

yep, airport is supposed to be a place of transit, not somewhere to go on a date
