Wasn’t our young OC a read option / run pass option guru?

Didn’t we hear a lot about that after his hire ? Is he holding out till sec play? Let me say first imo it’s unfair to give up on max in his 4th or 5th start w bad oline play and Rb production being non existent. I thought he showed good pocket presence vs UF and Miss last year.. CJP must implement the qb run more w max to offset his inability to push the ball downfield.. That production from a yardage standpoint needs to come in other ways. And it can’t be by throwing more 10 yard outs. Add another element that defenses must account for. For example.. It’s ok if a major league pitcher doesn’t throw 90+ But he better have a good change up and a curveball or he’s toast. And so is Jake and this offense if he doesn’t make up for this deficiency in other ways. I’ve seen zero creativity so far which is mind boggling to me. Ya can’t just run inside / outside zone runs and call nothing but intermediate pass plays and expect to win.

he specialized in RPO at bama.

we ran zone read with E and brady. we ran it last week with max and nuss. plus a couple jet sweeps to stretch horizontaly. had a couple WR screens also. we just cannot execute. all starts at O line.

Not sure about read option - I don’t recall hearing that Peetz was some read option guru, and that would seem odd considering the bulk of his experience is at the NFL level.

As for RPO, we have been running RPO’s. They just haven’t been very successful.

O already said we will do zone read and we will scramble to extend plays and drives BUT we will not run intentionally! that means no QB draws or QB power plays.

QB will only run if zone read calls for it or a scramble.

No, he is known as an RPO guru. However, he hasn't run hardly any RPOs because the OL and the running game suck to high heaven .

Peetz is just awful at playcalling. He just doesn’t have it when it comes to calling the plays. He may be great at coaching up until that point, but he fails at likely the most important part.

It’s his first time calling plays, so maybe he needs to find his rhythm, just wish it was not at lay….

Run pass option helps the qb and o line.

Not if the Dline meets you at the mesh point bc the Oline completely whiffs on its blocks. Like all play action passes, RPOs need time to develop. Our line has not consistently provided it.

the problem is o line always blocks for a run in a RPO while the QB reads the box and let's it be a dive or pulls out and throws behind the box or out wide based on his read. The o line has been bad. thus hurting lots of our concepts. A quick pass game helps to. but if you are not accurate and have dropsies. welp.

Why would he do that? Why not just win?

He’s also taking way too long to call in plays. Do you think he’ll be able to speed things up magically once SEC play begins?

through 2 games we have run the 3rd least amount of rpos in the SEC and are the least successful at them

IMO the issue with the RPO is the "R". You can't run it and put the defense at odds if they know they don't have to worry about the run. We pass all the time and when we do run it gets stuffed by the DL 9/10 times.

The RPO requires a decisive, diagnostic, and accurate QB to work well. Max is very young and arguably not suited for that yet.

This BS of taking forever to get a play called is ridiculous. Was our idiot HC not aware that Peetz is in way over his head at this job? All this should have been fixed before the season started.

I also wonder how our D will do against real competition, or will we get UCLA'd when we play legit teams. Ed Orgeron has most likely sealed his fate with these shitty hires. I'll be happy to eat crow if this badly coached team turns it around.

Play calling is not the most important part. If you don't have the fundamentals down it doesn't matter what you call.

With that said we are lacking in fundamentals and some play calls could help with that.

Calling RPOs not with our OL is akin to taking the windshield out of your vehicle during love bug season.

The only thing Peetz is a guru at is human reproduction
