Pels rumored to be interested in Simmons

propels Twitter quoting a guy quoting windhorst?
The package after Sept 30 (purely speculative):
Graham
NAW
Hart
Haye
Pick
I just don't see any of this making any sense. Our roster would be gutted and Simmons is a horrible match for Zion.

Would like to get an actual source.
Windhorst is definitely a Clutch mouthpiece at times, so if he actually said it, there might be something there(also might be drumming up pressure on behalf of Clutch).
Either way, Griff better not fricking even think about it.

I guess TMurph will shoot 14 3's a game for us.

Maybe I’m just so disappointed in the off-season that I’m grasping at straws but I don’t hate that trade. We lose some depth but Simmons could play his natural role on this team as a third option scorer, part time facilitator and lead defender. The fit isn’t as bad as it seems. Of course we want shooting but another major hole is elite defender. Simmons problem is he can’t be your number two scoring threat. And he wouldn’t have to be that here.

who are you losing there that matters?
Simmons can literally guard any position on the court. That solves so many issues defensively for us.
If that were the package, i'd try my best to keep NAW and send Kira out instead with another pick.
and i doubt they'd want that package, rather package some of that for another player they actually want, like maybe CJ McCollum.
I've done a breakdown before about Simmons and Zion including gifs of examples of how it would work. Those two running pick and rolls for each other would be deadly. It wouldn't work as well this year, but if Trey Murphy turns into a legit 3 point threat, than having BI and Trey waiting for open 3's while Simmons and Zion work the paint together, all you then need to do is find another good 3 point shooter, and if NAW can become a 40% open 3 point shooter, that's a really good lineup both offensively and defensively. You have next offseason to address that 3rd 3 point shooter to play with them if NAW isn't that guy. I imagine a half court offense with lots of ball movement and player movement. No sitting around watching one on one shite. Move the ball, penetrate, keep moving, keep penetrating until you get a wide open 3 or a layup. Don't rely on iso ball, rather move the ball and players enough to give them open shots or running starts at the rim b/c Zion and Simmons are almost unstoppable when they have a head of steam towards the rim. You get the defense moving and scrambling and they would be an extremely hard team to defend against. Even having NAW and BI attacking the paint and trying to finish over people is good offense b/c if Zion or Simmons man comes over to help they will get the put back off the miss as both are excellent offensive rebounders.
Whatever team gets Simmons, if they play him at the 5 and surround him with 3 point shooting is going to be good. He is the prototypical 5 for todays game. You let him start fast breaks off rebounds, and once you get him in the halfcourt and slow things down he becomes your center setting picks and rolling to the rim b/c he's one of the best rim runners in the NBA. He's similar to Lonzo in that he's great on the fast break, but terrible in the halfcourt with the ball in his hands. Get the ball out of his hands in the halfcourt and he'll be a much better offensive player.
I'm all for it.

Bronc,
Regardless of his decision, I do hope the GM is thinking about it.

The pelicans have a lot of trade assets so they will be “rumored” for every player seeking a trade. And the rumors will be coming from the players camp.

The fit is terrible.
Simmons, despite some of the statements to the contrary I’ve heard, is a terrible small ball five. So you are looking at either a lineup of Ingram, Zion, Simmons in the front court with guards behind him, or you are requiring yet another center and Simmons takes the spot of one of your guards, so in our case you would have three non-spacers on the court with Zion, Simmons, and Jonas.
If Griff thinks that is a good idea, if he genuinely pivots to that after last years disaster, fire him now.

Yall dudes are morons. We play absolutely no defense on the perimeter. And maybe the best perimeter defensive player in the league becomes available and you say hell no. And supposedly Vincent is some shooting God. Maybe that can be a fix also. Obviously depends on the price also.

Exactly, and his value is incredibly low right now even though he’s a perennial all star.

Lol
The guy is possibly the WORST fit in the entire league for us in terms of "star players".
He simply does not fit at all next to Zion and on this roster.
He's an elite defender but he is totally broken as a player.
AND the amount of depth/draft compensation we would have to give up to get him would be high given his salary and what the 6ers are pushing for.
He's not for us, we should hold out for future stars that become available. Simmons would be ok for a team like the Warriors, but not us.

Is this your opinion, or you've seen some advanced stats that say this?
I agree this wouldn't work if you had Simmons, Zion, Val out there. Simmons has to be the 5, and we'd need two really good perimeter defenders that can shoot. Murphy may be one of those guys. Maybe NAW can be, but i wouldn't hold my breath on that. There are plenty of guys out there that would fit that mold well, really good defender that will knock down open 3's, score maybe 12 a night. That's Alec Burks.
What's not to like about a lineup of Burks/BI/Murphy/Zion/Simmons? How is that different than if you substitute Val for Simmons as far as spacing goes offensively? What 5 is going to be a better fit with that lineup other than Simmons? I think that linuep puts a lot of pressure on Zion as the point guard, but hey, if he is who we think he is, we/he will be alright.

Lamar Odom was a good piece on paper in the Chris Paul trade. He and the kardashian’s were never going to play for New Orleans. Setting aside everything basketball related, I just don’t see Ben Simmons and his people embracing playing in the smallest market in the league. This guy and Louisiana just aren’t a match made in heaven.
Posted on 9/15/21 at 11:32 am to ned nederlander
so you think a guy playing in a top 5 market in the country right now, for a city that is probably harder on their own players more so than another other city in the country, wouldn't want to step away from the limelight a bit and simply work on being a better basketball player without all the attention on his game 24/7?
I could argue that our market is a match made in heaven for him right now.

Hard pass on this offer.
This leaves us with a lineup of;
Simmons
Murphy
Ingram
Zion
Jonas
Bench of
Kira/Temple
Satornasky
Marshall
Jones
Hernangomez
Only way I see this working long term is if Simmons can be convinced to play 5 on defense, and add another wing to the lineup to replace Jonas.
A future lineup of something like McCollum, Murphy, Ingram, Zion, Simmons would be interesting.

Fit is overrated sometimes. We would have 3 young All star level players that all play different positions. It's a big improvement and we can always find complimentary pieces.
I don't know if he wants to be here or even play ball anymore. But if his head/heart are into it, I'd take him..

Would be amazing as I’ve been contemplating buying this retro Simmons LSU kit and dealing for the mercurial point forward would make it an easy decision, lads. He was always my favourite LSU player after he dominated Vandy with a triple double in the SEC opener. All the chicas would send admiring glances my way as I walked back to the Warehouse District from the blender in this beaut

I don't disagree with what your saying teddy, I'm more concerned with Ben's mental state and his lack of effort to improve. It seems like he's content with being an athletic freak and hasn't added anything to his game since getting to the league. Two major red flags for me.

Calls people morons and then proceeds to make the most short sighted analysis in this thread.
So maybe actually make the case pal, explain to me how the rotation works and this unit wouldn’t be an offensive disaster? Simmons ability to lockdown one player isn’t gonna mean shite when you have three non-shooters on the other end every possession and in crunch time, when you need spacing and shot makers.
It’s a terrible way to spend on a roster and that’s before we get into Simmons being paid like a superstar and lacking in leadership. It’s synergistically terrible. Every one of our best players are handicapped, not complimented, and that’s the opposite of how you build winning rosters.
