How can anyone not like the LOTR trilogy?

I have met many who said they don't like it, hate it, can't stand it, find it boring.
Why? How? Please explain.

You don't think the LOTR trilogy is modern?

It's not my favorite. Thought it was too drawn out. I doubt I'd watch it again.
When The Hobbit trilogy came out, I waited for all three movies to be available before starting on it. Not the best series ever, but at least I didn't have to watch an incomplete story.

A lot of people have a reactionary revulsion towards anything magic, fairies, and scify as “nerd stuff”. They’re afraid people will think they’re “lame”, and avoid any kinds of of stuff like that because they think it will hurt their social image. As soon as they see elves or dwarves, they immediately check out because that sort of fantasy world holds no interest to them.
As for others, they simply have no attention span and find Fellowship boring.

I didn't hate it. Saw two of the three in the theaters but there's no way that I'd want to sit through them again and I can see why some people might not want to sit through them at all.
Hobbits and Orcs aren't for everyone.

This along with so many people actually having ADD/ADHD. Amazing how many people need dialogue or action to not get bored like children. I've heard a decent amount of guys say that it's 9 hours of walking.
On the other hand my wife made a comment when we first got together that she had only watched each movie once when they first came out and thought the fight scenes drug on. So there's the other side of the spectrum but she's the only one I've heard say that.
Since then we've had one watch through about 2 months ago but we only watched half of a movie per sitting. This did change her opinion a little.

I read all the books as a kid, was super excited for the movies, but couldn’t get past the first one. I found it boring. I fell asleep.

And that one is probably my favorite one. Many impactful moments. Original material only slightly altered unlike the next two.

They're just trying to sound cool by parroting Kevin Smith/Clerks 2.
LotR is the best trilogy of all time IMO. And I wasn't even a huge "fantasy" fan back then either, had never read the books or really knew anything about the story. They were just that good for me. I remember when the third one came out my two cousins and I went to Tinseltown in BR and they were showing the first two extended cut movies, then new-releasing the last one. So we were in there all damn day, but it was fricking awesome.
To this day my favorite trilogy and I watch it all the time when it's on TV. They are very good "have on in the background" movies for me.

OG Star Wars is still the best trilogy of all time

I disagree. It's a very good trilogy, but I think Donkey Kong is the best trilogy ever.

I was thinking just earlier today to put in “Fellowship of the Ring” on this rainy day.

This.
I love Star Wars, especially the OG Trilogy, but LOTR just blew me away.

I love the OG Star Wars. New Hope and Empire are at that level but Return of the Jedi factored in weakens the trilogy.
Giant teddy bears with sticks and rocks are a major hinderance to a sci-fi Galactic Empire. They go back to the well of the planet killer Death Star that looked like it was vaporized in the first movie.

What a lame criticism.

I can certainly see someone finding it boring, as they're pretty long.
That said, I bought the Extended Cut Blu Rays as soon as they became available because I was happy to get even more of it.
And obviously, if that kind of fantasy isn't your thing, then it would be a brutal watch for you.

Easily the weakest part of the movie but you still had the Vader/Luke lightsaber battle, Endor space battle and the Sarlacc pit battle. I am sure that I am missing some other parts but I'll put it up against the fellowship's Weathertop, Battle of Amon Hen and Balin's Tomb.

How about a talking raccoon?

Well it was said that when it was released. All the guys loved it and the chicks hated it. But yeah, I think it’s simply idiotic to find it boring.
