but at least I didn't have to watch an incomplete story.
This was my problem. I saw the first movie when it came out. It was long af and didn't have an ending. I lost interest and didn't see the next 2.

How about a talking raccoon?
A genetically altered talking raccoon fits in to the Guardian's of the Galaxy sci-fi world. Now if that raccoon wasn't genetically altered and used sticks and stones to take down Thanos' soldiers who have years of training and futuristic weapons that wouldn't make any sense in the parameters of the world that is Guardians of the Galaxy.

Who's to say that the Ewoks weren't genetically altered? it seems like we're playing with pretty loose rules here.

OG Star Wars is still the best trilogy of all time

You can ask which of the six films is the best, but of those six there is clearly an inferior entry: Return of the Jedi. Lord of the Rings did it right on how a bunch of little people could take down an all powerful Dark Lord. The Battle of Endor was ridiculous and made the Empire look like buffoons. The only buffoonish thing about Sauron is he didn’t put up a locked door or a troll in front of the entrance to the Crack of Doom in case anyone would try to destroy the Ring, but that is explained by Sauron’s own arrogance that no one could truly resist the power of the Ring (which he’s right to a large extent) and no one would have the balls to destroy it.

How is rank them:

1) Fellowship
2) Empire
3) King
4) Hope
5) Towers
6) Jedi

Easily the weakest part of the movie but you still had the Vader/Luke lightsaber battle, Endor space battle and the Sarlacc pit battle. I am sure that I am missing some other parts but I'll put it up against the fellowship's Weathertop, Battle of Amon Hen and Balin's Tomb.

The problem is the Lord of the Rings is a near perfect masterpiece. If they knew how successful the Extended Editions would be, I do wonder if they would have shot the Scouring of the Shire. For the theatrical release just go straight from “You bow to no one” to Sam picking up Rosie in the Green Dragon.

Lucas didn't put any explanation behind the Ewoks. As fans we can't just add to the story so it fits right in our brain. The original script was planned to be Wookies but Lucas changed it to be these primitive teddy bears for the main reason of selling toys. That motive in itself limits the film from being taken seriously.

Giant teddy bears with sticks and rocks are a major hinderance to a sci-fi Galactic Empire.

Well ROTK has the ghost army plot solver issue

Fair point. Lucas must be one greedy mother fricker. He was already making a killing on the merchandising.

The Hobbit series isn't even in the same galaxy as LotR

Ya not at all - and I will say there are some book readers who aren't happy with the LotR trilogy due to unnecessary changes as they perceived them.

I personally don't find such people to be reasonable or willing to accept the reality of what an adaptation is but they do exist.

I love the books and the movies, with Fellowship being the clear best of the the 3. In fact, the first 5-7 minutes of Fellowship are the best section of the entire series.

I can watch them now and love them - every scene/line seems like an old friend coming home.

However...I DO think things like Game of Thrones have blasted them a little bit into the stone age. The characters are all basically 2 dimensional simply because everything is pure, black and white, good vs evil.

I don't actually like GoT better, but in many ways, it is more interesting, as you get to see real people in real political settings trying to strike the balance between self interest and good.

So, I could see someone objecting along those lines, especially if they saw more recent stuff first.

I have a friend who refused to watch Fellowship when it first came out because, in his words, "I don't want to sit through a 3 hour movie starring fricking Elijah Wood."

A week later, I caught that mother fricker watching Radio Flyer.

But the trees were actually powerful. The Ewoks are not.

Yeah, I do think it is sad the Scouring of the Shire was left out, but I understand why. If you put it in, it’d have to be left out of the theatrical release because that’d add another hour to the film.

LOTR and Star Wars Original Trilogy are the two best of my life-time. I think the LOTR extended cut was better than the theatrical version. I have done the entire 12 hours in a setting. Make it a breakfast, lunch and dinner event.

That may be a legitimate point, but it's one that is intentionally written into LOTR by Tolkien.

The Men (Denethor in particular) are more gray at times in the books, but there is no gray areas regarding Sauron, the Orcs, the Trolls, Nazgul etc.
They are pure evil.

For the sake or argument:

Too long.

Too "epic".

Action that strains suspension of disbelief (dwarves, barrels, and river).

Utterly ruined when you realize that all Gandalf had to do was summon one of those big arse eagles, strap a hobbit on it with the ring, and have it fly to Mordor. For a wizard Gandalf was pretty fricking dumb.

Greatest trilogy AND greatest film fight scene of all time. And they hold up tremendously well. I’ll hear no argument against either of these, LOTR is a masterpiece plain and simple.

It should have been. That's my problem with it.
