I feel like all I’ve heard are stories of insurance companies doing whatever they can to make it as difficult and complicated as possible for homeowners with claims after the hurricane. Wondering if anyone has any good stories to share because I’m ready to leave ours ASAP.

If anyone comes with a positive experience, I’ll believe them to be an insurance agent.

my experience with State Farm has been trouble and hassle free.
claim handled online and all documentation uploaded to their portal. Adjuster came to house and left without argument, settlement sent ACH

My adjuster has been out just waiting on insurance to call with their offer.

Meeting with my parents adjuster tomorow. Their home is total loss, we shall see how they treat us.

We are with farm bureau and have never had any issues. Always seems to over pay, hopefully that doesn't change

I had the same experience with them last year for Laura. They really were a pleasure to deal with. The process sucks, but they definitely took good care of me.

And I'm not an agent, I'm a plant baw

I have an appointment with the adjuster at 7 am tomorrow morning. He is just going to tell me that I won't meet my deductible. But at least it will be on the books in case we have another storm..

Have a claim with USAA right now and the adjuster comes Tuesday. I’ll report back after I know more but my only other claim with then was a hail claim in April and I couldn’t have been treated any more fairly and respectfully than I was then so I have no reason to doubt I’ll have the same experience this time. We shall see soon. It helps that I used to work in P&C insurance so I know what to legitimately claim and not to claim. Understanding what to expect and why helps tremendously going into an insurance claim. When it’s over, chances are I won’t feel screwed.

Update:

Just got a call from USAA with the results. Getting a little less than I expected but my damage is minor with the exception of my fence so I’m not upset as I’m going to do most of the repairs myself anyway. Overall I’m happy and don’t really feel the need to shop around yet. Now, when I lose that claims free discount at renewal in December I may feel differently

Field adjuster showed up yesterday determined to finish his photos and paperwork and not have to come back. I get that a lot in Harahan.

Anyway, he was done in about an hour. I’ll get a check in a couple weeks.

Probably as many people who have had a good experience with a root canal or hemorrhaging hemorrhoid.

More likely that those with a bad experience either didn't fully understand the coverages they were buying or simply went with the cheapest policy tbh.

Most reputable highly rated insurance companies don't need to nickel and dime you after a catastrophic event. The losses have triggered their Excess of Loss reinsurance policies so it's not their money their spending any more. It's in their interest to keep you happy as a customer at that point so you stick with them and most will work with you.

I have seldom seen a more true statement regarding how insurance claims work on the OT. Sure, people get fricked every time a hurricane hits but by and large, insurers pay out according to the policy.

What homeowner carrier are you with?

ETA: didn’t you just build a new house? You should be with progressive/ASI and nobody else

Don’t meet with my adjuster until the 23rd, but so far everyone has been easy and pleasant to deal with.

Although, that could all change tomorrow. My insurance sent out a company to tarp my roof on the 9th, on the 11th their QC guy came to check their work. Said they didn’t need to tarp it and would be paid for it, so they pulled the tarp. I now have leaks all over because they used 3” nails to hold the tarp down

Had Safeco for Laura last year and they were pleasant to work with. Sent h2o/mold remediation company. Took care of all damages and 3 supplemental claims.

Just got through with the adjuster. He didn't give me any trouble. Took down all nick picking crap that I was throwing at him. Told me the roof on my separate garage needs a total replacement. The previous owners put a cheaper roof on the garage. He didn't blink an eye at the replacement of the wooden door that took a beating. So now I wait to see how much the insurance company screws me.. It could take up to 30 days for them to let me know..
