"Boy, did I call it or what?" - George Orwell
This includes not just arrestees and routine interviews, but also traffic stops. That's right, run a red light, and you have to turn over the names of your social media accounts.
Oh, and they're also telling people that they HAVE to provide their Social Security number on demand. LAPD is instructed to say "it's federal law". See the card below:
Except no such law exists. This is blatant bullshite.
Welcome to the Brave New World.
LAPD told to collect social media of every civilian they stop
quote:
The Los Angeles police department (LAPD) has directed its officers to collect the social media information of every civilian they interview, including individuals who are not arrested or accused of a crime, according to records shared with the Guardian.
Copies of the “field interview cards” that police complete when they question civilians reveal that LAPD officers are instructed to record a civilian’s Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and other social media accounts, alongside basic biographical information. An internal memo further shows that the police chief, Michel Moore, told employees that it was critical to collect the data for use in “investigations, arrests, and prosecutions”, and warned that supervisors would review cards to ensure they were complete.

And if you refuse what law are you breaking?
It is time for civil disobedience. Overwhelm the system. Don't be a sheep.

The bureaucracy can demand this but I don't know if the rank and file are implementing it.
If someone is busy busting killers, they aren't going to give a shite about Instagram profiles.

This is bullshite but no one has to provide it not to mention these are accounts on publicly accessible platforms that anyone can go look at if it isn't set to private.

they can ask anything, nothing legally requires you to answer questions. Its typical to ask phone number and some ask SS# when given a citation. Neither of those questions need to be answered, same will be the case with social media questions

No officer, I have no social media.
No officer, I don’t have an email account.
No officer, I don’t have a social, I’m in this country without documentation.
Oh I’m free to go? Gracias

Silence or refusal, false statements can cause problems

This pre-supposes that anyone participating in a field interview is or will eventually be guilty of something for which they will be investigated, arrested and/or prosecuted.
