Question about Indiana Jones and the Last crusade

Did they explain why his Dad has a Scottish accent, and the son does not? Been a while since I've watched it from the beginning, so can't remember. I do like the movie, but recently, this has bugged me when I see it on TV.

I would guess his dad was raised in Scotland while Jr was raised in the US.

Thought about that, but his Scottish parents would have taught him to speak with an accent prior to going into Kindergarten.

Indy's mom could have been American born with an American accent, which would have negated any influence from Henry Sr. with regards to accent. (I'm not sure if it is established how young Indy was when his mother died.)
Also, Indy seems to have a fair share of American friends as a young person, and that would have also negated Henry Sr.'s influence with regards to accent.

Going by the Young Indiana Jones Chronicles I would say that since he moved around so much as a kid Indy never really developed an accent.

My buddy’s dad was English his mom American and she speaks with an American accent.

Completely irrelevant but I knew this woman with the most amazing accent. She was from Southeast Asia and she could speak English very well but it was obvious she had many Teschers throughout her early life because every single word she spoke was a different accent. Some words were an English accent. Some words an Australian accent. Some a South African accent. Some a Scottish accent. I loved listening to her speak

I always wondered how Donovan and Elsa were able to get past the Latin stepping stones. How did they know Jehovah was was the correct combination or that it was spelled with an 'I'?

To me that that the weakest of the 3 challenges. It would stand to reason that anyone searching for the Holy Grail would be well versed in Judeo-Christian beliefs.
Granted the spelling with the I instead of J would trip many regardless. However, the J was gone and would have to force them to think of possible alternate spellings. Much the same way that there is no "F" in the Latin alphabet.
