It's not abnormal for a local NWS office to have slight differences in their forecasts from national offices like NHC or SPC. I’ve seen NWS Birmingham have differences in severe weather forecasts from what SPC says many times. The local offices are able to focus on a much more localized area.

In this case, though, it looks like an error.

Their tweet says the Northshore will get 110+ sustained but even their attached graphic has that area in the "Potential for 74-110 MPH winds" zone. That's a big difference!

I don’t think I understand these weird posts. Are you arguing that it’s not possible at that latitude or it isn’t happening with Ida?

Because the former is total horse shite. Baton Rouge has avoided a catastrophic storm impact by pure dumb luck over the years. It isn’t vulnerable to storm surge, but it is vulnerable to a wind threat from hurricanes.

He said sustained and he's absolutely right.

Sirens now sounding in St Charles as the “deadline” to leave has passed

That’s a thing now? What’s the point of that? Like a big, “You’re screwed” to those who stayed?

Steady stream of cars and people coming into our Houston hotel now. Total demographic switch from Tennis competitors to Louisiana evacuees. Just got more interesting.

You know how I know this hurricane is serious?

The Waffle House in Morgan City is closed until after the storm.

To get tha actuall NOAA updates for your specific location go to LINK /

Enter you zip code and search

Click on your location and click on "See full local forecast"

Scroll down past the detailed daily forecast and click on "Tabular Forecast" under Additional Forecasts and Information.

It will give you the official hourly NOAA forecast including sustained winds and gusts

So - why does this differ from the NWS doom tweet?

In my zip code (Metairie) - it shows sustained winds no higher than 50 and gusts no higher than 70 in the tabular forecast. So, which the frick is it?

It would be nice if their information somewhat aligned.

Just leave it. Your family does not need the stress of you being on the road and possibly stranded in traffic. Houses can be replaced, people can't.
