So why didn’t Griff trade Zo for Lauri at the deadline?

He knew Zo wasn’t going to be apart of the team moving forward and apparently the Bulls offered Lauri and picks at the deadline. Once we moved Melli, Lauri would have been a huge upgrade and provided shooting we desperately needed.

I find it hilarious we took on contracts and got scraps for Ball while the Bulls want a first for Lauri now and he couldn’t muster up any contract offers over 14 mill….

I’m sure Lauri would be estatatic to take the exact contract we just gave Hart filling our backup 4 hole yet we keep future flexibility if he does work out if we had him as a rfa…..

Because he was trying to make the playoffs and moving Zo then is basically folding his hand. It didn’t work. It is what it is.

I think Reddish was also offered supposedly too from Hawks.

He didn’t want to trade Zo because of playoffs and didn’t want to destroy the team relationship during the season. Or he wanted to wait for off season hoping to grab Lowry/Paul.

Plus Zo wanted to be here, he just didn’t feel appreciated.

Did they offer picks? I thought they only offered Lauri for Zo straight up and Griff was holding out for picks.

I find it hilarious that you don't understand how restricted free agency works

there's a reason the Pels didn't take Lauri after months of the Bulls attempting to give him to the Pels and there's a reason why he remains unsigned

I'd rather have Satoransky and a 2nd than feel pressured to overpay Markennan because the Pels "gave up Lonzo" to get him.

The Pels didn't want to overpay to keep lonzo due to him being a restricted free agent. They knew then the cost to resign him would exceed his actual value. All the Bulls was offering was someone in Lauri who like lonzo was looking for a contract that exceeded his actual value. The pels would have an equally tough time trying to re-sign him. This would increase the chance that he simply play next year on the Q.O. which would make him untradable if the pels wanted to.

Here's a simple answer. Temple and Sato are better than Lauri.

Sato and Temple are tall role players who will fit well with Zion/BI. They are tall, they play defense, and can knock down 3's. Thus the term for such players, "3 and D."

3 and D players are valuable in todays league. They guard well, play roles, and open the floor with a few threes here and there. 3 and D's are not stars.

Lauri wants to be a star. He is not a 3 and D role player.

The End.

I don't think the Pelicans had decided anything on Lonzo by the trade deadline. Maybe they would have moved him if overwhelmed by an offer, but I think they saw some improvements the last two years and wanted more time to evaluate and settle on a price. Apparently that price still wasnt enough.

I think Griff decides to lean all the way into intangibles and competitiveness this year. We got rid of literally ever lackadaisical player we had from last year. Lonzo is gone, Bledsoe is gone, Melli, JJ, all of them.

I think Griff has finally built the culture he has been trying to build since he got here. This will finally be the year it feels like the culture and energy of this team and franchise has shifted. Shouldn't have taken three years to do it, but better late than never.

That's why I think he decides to take Sato and Temple over Lauri. Murphy, Herb, Graham and Valanciunas all give 100% every time they are on the court. We saw the way Willie Green likes his team's to play in summer league. This team won't lose due to lack if effort or hustle, not anymore.

That's why they took the pieces they did. Doesn't mean I agree it was the right move, but the more time I sit with it, the more I'm excited to see what this team can do now that every player actually wants to be here and they all put the team before themselves.
