Draft Night Analysis

Posted by DaTruth225 on 7/3/25 at 2:08 pm
Pelican fans, the media, and posters on this forum (I don't assume all posters are actual fans based on some of these posts) all believe this is one of the worst trades in recent history. I think most are slightly overreacting.

Full disclosure, I believe there should have been some protections on the pick. If they wouldn't have accepted it with it ; being strong enough to walk away would have been preferable.

However, many NBA insiders believed that if Giannis was going to be traded this offseason, it would have happened before the draft, considering the teams most likely to trade for him had high lottery picks this year, and Milwaukee would have wanted them included in any deal. An average Milwaukee team in the East with Giannis is not a bottom-4 4 team. Even if they decided to move him at the deadline, the Bucks don't have the rights to their own first, so they have no incentive to tank.

Similarly, the pelicans are in the same boat. Everything that could go wrong went worng for them injuriy wise. We expect Zion to miss games, but the total games lost to injury from the rest (BI, Murrary, Trey, Herb, etc.) was unreal. We wern't good , but we wasnt as bad as our final record. We activly decided to tank. We played games down the stretch where the only recognizable pels were Jose, JRE, and Elfrid Payton. Since we don't own our pick, I don't see us doing that again. There will be teams actively tanking with worse rosters next year. For these reasons, I feel most people are overreacting.

Also, if the trade was so historically bad, and this makes the front office look so incompetent, why is it not equally bad for the Bulls, Rockets, and Trailblazers? It was reported that we offered the same deal to teams picking 9-12, and they turned it down. Shouldn't their front offices be ridiculed for drafting a player like Cedric Coward at #11 instead of trading back 12 spots and gaining this sure-fire top 3 pick in next year's draft?
quote:

Griff was almost as bad. The one guy I really liked that drafted, DD, he undervalued and got bent over on when traded. I think he legit lost every single trade he made.

I strongly disagree. The haul he received for AD, considering he had minimal leverage, was great. The Jrue trade was also great. We're still collecting from that one. Even the Memphis trade that netted us JV and Trey turned out to be good.

Him losing every single trade is simply not true.

How do any of the players acquired make sense for a Willie Green coached team?

This is probably the best part of all the moves they made in the last 72 hours. I would be livid if the front office was acquiring players based on how they fit with Willie Green.. This is the clearest sign that Willie won't be here much longer.

Low key move of the off-season was resigning Herb a year before his contract expired.

So D.G. did the right thing this off-season? He got railed by this board for using the only room under the luxury tax we had to re-sign Herb. I wonder what his market would be as an RFA this offseason

He's lost a lot of support since the last election.

No he hasnt. He increased his votes by 6M in '20 (He said since the last election, not since 2016)

He beat the queen of politics in 2016 (He barley beat the most unliked candidate in modern history in a few key states, barely)

They faked a pandemic so they could stuff ballots in AZ, Penn, GA, Mich, and Wisc, or he wins again (All of those states elected democrats or reelected the same GOP leaders from 2020)

If the cheating is allowed again in '24, no Republican is electable
( If you truly beleive this, why not try Desantis? We already know trump can't overcome it. He allowed it to happen while he was in the oval office. You think he can do better as a private citizen in his 80s)

The turnout was to vote against Trump not to vote for Biden

The 2020 election was never about Biden. As long as Trump is on the ballot it will be about him.

He was protecting an incumbent (That actually won the gen

No he was protecting the swamp monsters

And doing everything he could to help Ds win

You can just admit you are not bright

He backed Incumbent Republican Senators (His Job as Leader)

Endorsing candidates in states they don't actually live in (PA & GA) , and not helping them financially when they were out spent by Dems is doing everything to help D's win.

Nor did McConnell hoard money for himself while his candidates floundered.

Why did Trump endorse candidates and not flood their campaigns with all the cash he had on hand? Especially when they were being out spent. I feel if you're not going to financially support a candidate, don't put your thumb on the scale during the primary.

Nor did McConnell hoard money for himself while his candidates floundered.

Ummm he did exactly that and only put the money into a race vs a fellow R

He was protecting an incumbent (That actually won the general)
quote:

Was Fetterman a "quality candidate"?

Nope, but he was a known figure in PA and rode the coattails of a blowout at the top of the ticket. Walker couldn't even ride the coattails of Kemp. The fact that Walker couldn't win 50% of the vote when the rest of the GOP did show HE was the problem. There was enough GOP voters in November for him to win out right.
quote:

I have. Roy Blunt. Todd Akin.

I assume you mean Roy Moore. If that’s the case, all the bad candidates you voted have one thing in common. They lost state wide elections in red states. Add Walker to that list. The GOP realized their mistake and won both of the seats the next cycle. GA primary voters have to do the same.
quote:

He was mayor of a town smaller than some subdivisions. And he was lieutenant governor in a state where no one votes for lieutenant governor.

PA voters know him as one of them. They even like his hoodie attire. Compare that to OZ. Where was OZ 5-years ago in PA. Was he even in PA?

Mitch was right about candidate quality.
quote:

Every time someone says Herschel was a bad candidate, I want them to defend Fetterman for the democrats that beat Oz.

Fetterman is a retard, but he was PA’s retard. He held office multiple times in that state. We might not like him, but clearly the voters in PA do. He had the advantage of going against OZ who has little to no connection to the state. This is how a “bad” candidate wins a race they shouldn’t.

In Georgia, they portrayed Walker as walking retard. Unfortunately, when he gave rambling speeches he reinforced that narrative. Also, he’s from TX, and moved to GA to run for senate similar to OZ.

A real GA and PA republican could have won those two races easily. The primary voters made the general election harder than it needed to be.
quote:

Why did Kemp win then?

Nobody wants to answer this question. Can't blame ballot harvesting if every other statewide GOP candidate won on the same ballot.
How did Kemp do it on the same ballot?
quote:

Kemp would’ve carried him over the finish line

Easily. But some people prefer to take the hard road, and complain when bad candidates underperform.
quote:

Hahaha that LT Governor is an attention seeking rhino cuck that would of lost re-election.

He would've rode Gov Kemp's coat tails to victory like every other GOP candidate. Wish he was on the ballot today instead of Walker.

Let me ask, when you have taxes taking out for a purchase or paycheck, are you the only one of us that gets a questonaire each time asking you where every cent goes? If so you're pretty fricking special.

No, I don't get a questionnaire. But I'm 99.9999% sure that state taxes go to state funded things and local taxes go to locally funded things. I could be wrong, but the war in Ukraine is not funded by state and local taxes. :usa:
