Well think about how many billions of people there are and have been and estimate what percentile (99? 99.9? 99.99?) rankings would place her or people of similar health, affluence, etc. It seems appropriate for a person who is relatively young, apparently healthy, and financially set.

I'm a slightly older and will probably never approach her financial status but still put myself only marginally below her level of luck. My recent ancestors in the early 20th century were dying in their childhood of tuberculosis or tetanus. People used to regularly have six or more children just so a few would reach adulthood.

Gratitude is a healthy thing. It gives perspective and appreciation for life. Most people have a tendency for ingratitude - which means they ignore the many ways in which they are fortunate and resent the ways in which they perceive others to be even more fortunate

And yet, we burn cities and name streets/monuments after a career criminal who forced his way into a woman's home and robbed her at gun point...

Also funny Jacob Blake's dad wasn't "canceled" for the shite he spewed about Jews and whites but instead was invited to speak at a massive civil rights rally (ironically)...

By your standards any successful actor is there because of luck.

Yes 100% of successful actors are there because of luck. There are thousands of talented actors waiting tables and washing cars right now. They call it getting their "Big Break" for a reason.

discount talent, intelligence, and appearance,

Those can all be discounted in a successful actors career. Some are talentless but still successful, some are down right ignorant, and some have made careers on being unattractive.

They are.

They're rich and famous usually for pretending to be average people.

Why don’t they just get Sheldon? Doesn’t appear he’s too busy lately.

And while we're at it, keep in mind that Mayim Bialik, though vaccinated, spreads vaccine doubt and hawks brain quackery. She is no representative for a show about facts and authority. Replace the executive producer. Fire the executives over him. And give @levarburton the gig.

Jarvis, a critic of some sort, brings up a good point. Bialik thinks for herself. That's verboten.

It's a shame people kowtow to the miserable pieces of shite that make up cancel culture. Just once I would like to see someone stand their ground and tell these people to go frick themselves.

This isnt cancel culture. One of the scandals that came to light was that Richard's was in charge of the new host search. Even after he became a candidate, he was still able to edit and curate the submission videos of the other candidates that the rest of the search committee viewed.

It's low stakes, sure, but this dude engineered the search to hand himself the job. A scumbag.

We’ll need a link to where there’s evidence of him editing these videos. I said from the start that he chose candidates who would be interesting but not on his level. But considering that he’s near Trebek’s level already, it’s not like he’s a talentless boss forcing himself into a role that he isn’t qualified for.

He should be kicked off. Comedians never make disparaging remarks about groups.

This tweet reads like this guy was foaming at the mouth. Imagine having this level of hate for people you can't even name. What a sad life to live.

Miyam Bialick being the answer. How about bringing back Levar Burton instead?

I love Levar but he wasn't good.

I'm on team Mayim.

I don't know anything about that. But, seeing as he's the executive producer, that's probably well within the scope of his duties for the show. Did you watch the guest hosts on Jeopardy? Richards was easily one of the top candidates. And trying to get the guy fired because he asked some chicks about boob pics on his podcast is certainly cancel culture.

I’ve noticed something that bothers me on Jeopardy. On several incidents a contestant will know the correct answer but can’t pronounce the word. This could indicate that the contestant was supplied the answer but not coached on the pronunciation. An example would be Matt and “Katydid” on a show a few weeks ago. There are several other examples over the past few months. Am I being paranoid or could it be something to this?

Just means that they've read the word but have never had to actually say it. Happens all the time. You go through life reading a word or character name, and just assume that you've been pronouncing it correctly in your mind. Then you say it our loud and people look at you like you're insane.

The pattern is clear:
They cite the actual things said/done (which are lame).
They cite with it anything and everything else even remotely related to the target and bad acts, no matter how weakly linked, to create this vague cloud of offensive conduct.
The media runs with it citing their key offense terms, misogynist, racist, anti-Semite, etc.
Most people don’t drill down to see what he actually said or did, due to the vague cloud of offense.

Mayim Bialik will be the first guest host of Jeopardy! now that Mike Richards has stepped down.

The Big Bang Theory alum is scheduled to tape three weeks of episodes (so 15 episodes) when production on the syndicated daytime hit resumes this week.

Additional guest hosts are expected to be announced in the wake of Richards leaving the hosting podium just one week after being announced for the position by Sony Pictures Television.
Richards stepped down amid a series of scandals, most notably resurfaced offensive comments made on his podcast from 2013-2014 and prior discrimination lawsuits during his time as executive producer on The Price Is Right.

I have so many examples of doing that myself when I was growing up, as I was an avid reader.

But now it's fun to see the youngest daughter do it:

-- the New Order song "Blue Monday" comes on the car radio. She says, "Dad, this song is the eppy-tome of the 80s."

-- At the wine section of the store, while I was picking out a pinot noir, she read a bottle label and said, "Hey, Grandma sometimes drinks this brand of wine-- Simpa-teeko!"
