You could watch the original trilogy and nothing more, and again it's perfectly set.
You could watch the original and prequel trilogies, and all the animated series (all, or none), at every point things are integrated and covered... but not mandatory to enjoy. You don't need to watch the animated show to see Asoka Tano in action and say "wow, she's a bad arse". It's presented through Mando's eyes, he didn't know her, he quickly learns she is a) cool as hell, and b) not to be fricked with.
But the inclusion of the sequels... it just renders everything pointless. If you connect the dots to get where the sequels occur, then everything we will see is ultimately a failure.

My guess is Filoni devotes the next decade of his life trying to some how salvage the sequel movies by building up to them. No one can deny he's as loyal as they get to Star Wars.
Now... my personal head canon for the Star Wars sequels is that the series should have ended with a hungover Han Solo waking up saying he had the worst nightmare. "Where did you get that spice Chewy? That is the worst trip I've ever had!"

Contrary to popular opinion I loved Solo. It reminds me of the OT movies in that its just a fun sci fi adventure film with likeable characters. You may want to give it a shot. I thought Episode IX was mess.

I won't say it necessarily ruined the movie for me, but after watching The Natural I decided to read the book by Bernard Malamud for a book report in middle school. That's when I discovered that Roy Hobbs struck out at the end, unlike in the movie, and the last paragraph is of a young boy coming up to Hobbs with a newspaper showing Hobbs in connection to the death of the lady from the train and he says "Say it ain't so Roy". And Hobbs wept.

Going this route, I Am Legend was like this for me. I really enjoyed the Will Smith movie when I first saw it. Then I actually read the novel by Richard Matheson and was blown away at how much better and how different it was. Would have made for a much better movie had they simply stuck to the source material...which is a common belief for me. Turns out the Charlton Heston movie, Omega Man, which is also based on the book, is a much better movie because of it.
After having read the book and watch the Heston movie, I've never been able to watch the Smith version again.

Prometheus ruins Alien for me.
It’s one of those cases where I wish I didn’t know what I know now. I didn’t need to know where the alien came from or how it was created. It’s not really alien anymore after that.

Captain America: Civil War was bad with a lot of plot contrivances, and Captain Marvel was hamfistedly retconned, but Black Widow has retroactively ruined the entire history of the MCU for me.

I get the vitriol for the sequel trilogy, but Solo is a solid entry imo and I’d actually love to see a sequel or spinoff series to follow up loose ends. Mandalorian you’re really missing out ... it’s the best Star Wars media since the OT and sticks incredibly true to the original space western vibe.

People say good stuff about the Mandalorian but bottom line you can't trust the management running Star Wars IP.
There were thousands of stories or angles to take with the sequel handling of the original trio of central characters but they destroyed Luke (including his central character trait of courage, destroyed his arc of character growth, and wouldn't even do him the service of showing how he grieved the loss of Han or devolved into the type of pessimistic coward who would try and fail to kill his own nephew in his sleep). Han was less featured but the character arc of growing from a selfish loner was also reversed with him becoming an absent father.
No. Just no. I can't trust these people to tell a good story or to treat the audience with decency.

No one needed or asked for a Han Solo back story, and more importantly there are a handful of characters that are more to do with the actor that first played them than others.

Solo was a mess too. Of the 5 movies Disney has done, only Rogue One is good and that’s because of how good the third act was. It let you see the actual war and was the first Star Wars movie that didn’t really feature any of the main storyline characters.

I've always heard Goodfellas is one of the most accurate biographical films because the FBI basically made Henry Hill a supervisor on set and if he went off the wagon or tried to pull any nonsense they were going to put him in jail
