You do understand they aren't going to find the Taliban Army and drop our guys on top of them right? You also understand that the Airforce will bomb and strafe the absolute frick out of any Taliban within 10 miles of the planned drop zone right? Biden is stupid and useless, but he doesn't tell the military what tactics to use in combat situations.

Logistically, that would take considerable time to get as many foots on the ground plus vehicles on site.

paratroopers

So even though the airport is reporting heavy gunfire, we’re going to just casually drop parachutes in there?

Or trust the Taliban at their word they will not interfere with evacuations? Do the Taliban have enough control over their own troops to make that guarantee?

Sounds like a suicide mission.

The troops there have to secure the airport, or any drop has to be a considerable distance. Than you need to not only drop troops but also a huge amount of transports. That all takes huge amounts of time.

Are all the paratroopers vaccinated?

Biden sure didn’t seem to have an issue with stopping the building of a border wall and inviting the caravans to cross the border, thereby creating a domestic terror threat.

Do you really think that's how it would be done?

So you think they are just going to drop 1k servicemen into a hot zone with no prep or air support?

It doesn't take long to get a combat missions in the air followed by a drop. It's kinda their whole thing as an airborne unit.

I pray for those soldiers that the Chinese and Pakis aren’t pushing the Taliban to make an even larger statement by double-crossing us.

Our air power won’t mean much in an urban area unless we throw the ROE out the window.

My guess WRT to what is happening and what will happen:

USA called China to assist in requesting Taliban to stand down on Airport assault. China complied. Taliban agrees to allow orderly withdrawal for the time being.

US mass media will hail Biden as "the tough guy who stared-down the Taliban mano a mano and the Taliban didn't DARE challenge Tough Joe when he told them to "Stand down or else!" Tough and Gutsy Joe Biden wins the day again.

Yeah, I don't think you understand how this works, if preparations were not underway... it takes hours to days to plan. Than it take time to get all assets in place.

You can bomb the airport than land at the airport, that means either the airport is secured or its not. If its not, that means the drop zone is going to have to be where the Taliban aren't... which than requires an even bigger force and more planning, and more time.

How soon will the soldiers dying in Afghanistan become a CNN daily tracker?

Answer: Not under a Democrat POTUS. Also, the left will go silent on this as well.

The whole problem with this situation is that we only have two options:
1. Go back to war
2. Tuck and run, lick our wounds, and live with the fact that we have destroyed the remaining worldwide respect for America

I assume the military has been game planning this for a few weeks because they all saw it as a distinct possibility.

If we want to operate under your premise of "no one has done a fricking thing" in prep for a possible combat mission, your posts make more sense.

My point is the military in that region would be incompetent if they weren't planning and moving assets into place for a possible combat mission to assist the withdrawal. The commanding officers would be derelict of duty for not preparing for this to go down and be prepped to keep our boys as safe as possible.

At least they are not having to parachute in/conduct an airfield seizure. The environment is still (somewhat) permissible.

Topic - No more means to evacuate - put the 82nd Airborne Division on alert

What an absolute and utter mess.

Not another American troop should set foot there. Afghans are responsible for their own country, and in all honestly there was never going to be a good time to leave.
