this was discussed yesterday in a random thread but I don't think it was the primary concern of the thread.

Surprise Surprise Big Government feels like they need more tax money.

We are not going to tax people making $400K or less.

Signed, Joe Biden on the Campaign Trail and First Month in Office

P.S., we are just going to look into it and might tax everyone later. I mean, there is a good chance. Probably so. Yeah, everyone is getting a tax increase. But you'll love it.

The bill will pass because of senators like Bill Cassidy who will claim it helps Louisiana but not give a damn about everything else.

Part of this is the classic grab for more taxes. Part of it is in response to the rise of electric cars.

But, yeah, it is mostly about control.

If people drive less due to a mileage tax, that means fewer auto accidents which means less money in the pockets of personal injury lawyers in Louisiana. Cassidy will do what their money tells him to do.

Why would anyone put a gps on their car, and why would I go to a federal government office to have my odometer read? Driving personal vehicles is a State matter as long as not regularly engaged in interstate commerce.

I have no idea what the purpose of the test is.

How much is the federal government think they would collect because jurisdiction is lacking.

I imagine they need a way to tax electric vehicles since they don't generate tax income from a gas tax.

With electric cars being the future, something needs to be figured out.

If I'm a EE or CE right now, I'm figuring out how to get into car CPUs and reconfigure mileage to minimize tax burdens.

Could be a millionaire overnight.

I'm not sure of other states, but Mississippi has a $100 electric vehicle tax that applies at each tag renewal.

C’mon, man! It’s just a fee, not a tax.
