youtube
Skip to 13:50 to see the finished product. I wanna try it myself but don't have anywhere to build nor the water source, just wondering has anyone ever tried to build their own power Source
He is another one with guy taking washermachine motor and building electric generator YouTube
Pretty awesome

You would have to use caution in states where water rights are important.

Then I’d cut it myself if it wasn’t worth their offered price.
Build an elevated tank to catch rainwater, then use the flow from that to generate electricity?

Government will come down on him. Can't have self sufficiency.

All in all, though, really cool.

Absolutely agree. Really cool.

Yeah he's history, the minutes his local legal beagles find out, the DNR, the city, the power company, and the post office are all going to be up his arse with a microscope.
I had a friend tried to hook their small wind mill into the local grid at a rural home. It went from a project that might pay off in 2-3 years before the paperwork and red tape to a project that would not pay off for 20+ years.
But hey, they want you to go green... long as you keep the money flowing.

There are more efficient ways to make hydro systems that don't utilize a dam and gets around the water rights issue.
Most common is to divert part of the flow and gradually decrease the size of the pipe, then utilize the resulting high pressure flow to run a pelton wheel.
Water rights aren't an issue because the water is returned back to the main stream without any blockage.

In Oregon it's illegal to use rain water buckets on your gutters. They say all rainfall belongs to the state. Go figure.

Something tells me you didn't watch the video.
Pretty cool, but no where close to self-sufficiency.

Out west water rights are life but I wonder how they would rule on this since they aren’t “using” the water.

SWB would have him take it down

I don't get your point, or you don't understand self sufficiency.
Producing your own power is self sufficient.
