After being let go from his job as a software quality-assurance engineer in April, Eric Watkins said he filed for unemployment benefits in Colorado. But he hasn't received a penny of the $6,490 he said he was eligible to receive and he's not sure when he will.
quote:
He sent a sharply worded letter to his state's unemployment agency criticizing ID.me's service, saying he would not take part in it given his privacy concerns. In response, he received an automated note from the agency: "If you do not verify your identity soon, your claim will be disqualified and no further benefit payments will be issued." (A spokesperson for the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment said the agency only allows manual identity verification "as a last resort" for unemployment claimants who are under 18 — because ID.me doesn't work with minors — and those who have "technological barriers.")
quote:
For Watkins, he said it felt like he was forced to choose between the privacy he believed he was entitled to and the money he was owed. Still, when it comes to ID.me, the answer for him is clear: "I want nothing to do with them."
quote:
Watkins is one of millions across the United States who are being instructed to use ID.me, along with its facial recognition software, to get their unemployment benefits. A rapidly growing number of US states, including Colorado, California and New York, turned to ID.me in hopes of cutting down on a surge of fraudulent claims for state and federal benefits that cropped up during the pandemic alongside a tidal wave of authentic unemployment claims.

You can either have the privacy you feel you’re entitled to or the money you feel you’re entitled to.

Does he use facial recognition on his phone? If he does, he needs to shut up and follow instructions. Privacy is an illusion in 2021 America.

Very much so and many don't get that.

I wonder what his thoughts on voter ID are?
The state already has your face on file. This sounds like a pretty good idea to combat fraud.

Can we get our local poliboard regulars to tell us if ID is good or bad for this?

ID.me doesn't work. I tried for 1 month to deny the child tax credit. It's a freaking scam

I have no issue with this at all.

I called 1-800-908-4184, explained the app didnt work, verified I tried the troubleshoorting steps and they transferred me to someone who was able to complete our opt out by phone. Katie and I both had to be here and confirm the request but it took maybe 10 minutes to complete by phone once I got to the right person.

If you have a driver's license or state ID..... Spoiler alert, the government has your face already.

If he thinks that is bad, wait until he finds out what is on his driver's license

Facial recognition is everywhere and being by all does of companies. We just flew on a United flight and they had facial recognition scan rather than showing boarding passes. Hell of a lot faster

The state is collecting all of this data on us. For example...I have this state issued ID where they required me to submit a photo for their database and provide my date of birth, social security number, height, weight, eye color, hair color, address...it was crazy.
But, I do like driving a car...so there's that.

SO is laid off for six weeks. As soon as her employer opened back up, she went to work. She did exactly what you are supposed to do - go back to work.
She has yet to be paid for her six weeks off, and it has been almost a year.
Yet. every lazy non-working scammer drew their $600 per week.

Man refuses to confirm identify, blames government for not paying out unemployment

Now, let's use it for voting. Since Dims think that blacks are too stupid, lazy, and ignorant to figure out the simple task of obtaining a state issued I.D. card, let's make facial recognition the means to vote. Show up and let the facial recognition program verify your identity or you can't vote. I'm all for it.
