I think I hyperextended my own middle toe

Last night I was cracking my toes and when I bent back my middle left toe I heard a snap. Different than an crack. I felt like something was wrong right away, woke up this morning and could barely walk on that foot
I think I either broke my own toe or just hypertensioned it
Either way it hurts like a mfr and I can hardly walk.
Do I really need that middle toe?

Most studies say that you only need 4.5 toes so I wouldn’t worry about it

My uncle lost two of the middle toes on his right foot when he was a kid. It happened in a tragic barn loft rope swing incident and the object of said toe removal was a piece of rusty tin.
All said, he was fine. Took him a little longer to get places because of all the walking in circles, though.
