Samsung Smart Fridge ??

Good Morning everyone.
We're getting ready to tackle a kitchen remodel, which includes putting in a 2nd kitchenette in the basement. We bought all of the appliances for the main kitchen last year (pre covid (
)) minus the fridge. We hadn't finalized the design for the main kitchen and didn't know if we were going to need a full sized or counter depth fridge.
While we were out shopping for the appliances for the kitchenet, we were looking around at the fridges and started talking with the salesman (They do not work on commission where we were.) I've always liked the concept of the Samsung smart fridge, but it really didn't fit the design for what we were going for. Anyway, the salesman quoted us a really good price on one last night. With the rest of the project looking to go over budget before we even get started, it's under consideration again.
My question for this group is and something that occurred to me as I was laying in bed last night. Moore's law. If the life expectancy of the fridge is roughly 10 year (and hopefully more (no pun intended)) where will the smart home tech for this thing be in 8-10 years? Will the android version in it even be supported at that age?
So what does this group think? Worth it or not? Should we just get a dumb fridge and be done with it??
Thanks in advance.

I’d get a dumb fridge - tech mess always seems to fail. What does a smart fridge do that a regular fridge doesn’t do.

DO NOT, under any circumstance, buy a Samsung fridge. You will regret it.

Lot's of things, but I get your point. The point of a fridge is to keep food cold. All other tasks that folks put in it are secondary.

This is a good question regarding a lot of IoT devices.
I'm curious myself, especially with all of the tech being put in cars and EVs.
Tons of Western Digital drives were recently hacked and erased. They were no longer receiving software updates. Phone manufacturers provide software updates for 3 or 5 years. It is recommended Windows 7 not be used because it no longer receives security patches. And on and on...

I love the whole IoT and smart devices world, but I hate "smarts" built into appliances for the reason you are hesitant. I don't want it to break or be unsupported while the appliance still works fine. But of course if you get a Samsung you may not have that problem.

Thanks everyone for confirming what I was thinking. It's off the list.

If I had to do it over again, I would put the True commercial fridge I currently have sitting in my laundry room and put it in my kitchen and I would buy a separate freezer. I have a separate ice maker that makes pellet ice and I have a reverse osmosis system for clean water. I don’t need my refrigerator for either of those things and only need it for storage. This is the True fridge I currently have. I purchased extra shelves to make it store more drinks. The price is comparable to what your are currently looking for, around 2,800-3,200.

I currently have 2 stand alone freezers in a room off of my garage, an alcohol refrigerator/freezer that sits in my sun room, an old refrigerator that holds water bottles in my garage, a kenmore refrigerator/freezer in my kitchen, and my True refrigerator that sits in my laundry room for overflow storage from my kitchen fridge and for drinks. You can never have too much room for things needing to be refrigerated and/or frozen.

I guess it boils down to what you are looking for. Some people always want new technology- I can respect this.

I had a Samsung fridge. Got the warranty with it too. Took the repairman 5 different times to come to the house before they just cut me a check for a new one. I wouldn't buy a Samsung.

Which one you have? We just remodeled our kitchen and put in a water line for this but haven’t bought one yet.

I have Vita Pure unit that sits under my kitchen sink. If I had to do it over again, I would have done a whole home unit and placed it where the main line comes into my home. As of now, it only filters the water to my Scotsman icemaker and to a faucet on my kitchen counter. I also do all my filter changes as the water I have is pretty bad and requires filter changes about every 3-4 months. It saves me a lot of money by doing it myself. You can buy the filters needed, in bulk, off of Amazon.
