A tad disappointed with this hire, but our temporary disappointment/excitement over the hire is irrelevant in the long run.

Winning games on the field, competing for conference titles, and making noise in Omaha is all that matters. I hope he has lots of success here!

That doesn't matter. At best, its a retarded comparison to strictly look at the results from an Omaha or bust perspective at the University of Arizona.

In conference competition also doesn't really have a hell of a lot to do with Omaha either. LSU got raped in conference this year and yet came really close to getting Omaha.

Which would be underachieving at LSU. In fact, this board would be calling for a new coach if we only had two CWS appearances over a six year period.

Yeah but he did that with resources at Arizona. LSU has more to offer.

Not my choice, but I’m not choosing. I would have preferred Godwin. Having said this I do think it’s a good hire. Let’s see what he can do.

ALSO: Arizona had two OUTSTANDING freshman this year. One was a stud catcher. Look out for the transfers he could bring here.

Bottom line is he’s 44 and has been to the CWS twice, including a runner up. Solid hire could’ve done a lot worse.

Good enough hire. Good coach with no experience down south. Seems like a decent enough recruiter so we should be fine.

I agree. He went to Omaha in his first season with someone else's talent 2016 49-24 (.671) then went 2017 38-21 (.644), 2018 34-22 (.607), 2019 32-24 (.571). He fell off ever year after except this year.

Jay Johnson (baseball coach)

Jay Bradley Johnson[1] (born April 20, 1977)[2] is an American baseball coach and former second baseman, who is the current head baseball coach of the LSU Tigers.

This is what I see when I go to Wikipedia

I'm glad because we all know his teams have great plate discipline. I'm sure his 3rd base coach can't be worse than cain.

I love the hire. Most LSU fans only get interested in guys who have been here before. Nobody wanted Saban because he wasn’t an SEC guy. Maneiri wasn’t either.

Johnson has done more with less than most coaches in America the past few years. And he isn’t a huge douche like Vitello.

Hopefully he brings Nate Yeskie with him because his records were a lot worse without him on the staff

I've confirmed the report by
@KendallRogers
that Jay Johnson is leaving Arizona to become the coach at LSU. It's just a job you can't turn down - maybe the No. 1 job in America.

Jay will be missed. Class act. Brilliant coach.

UA will get someone good. One of top spots in West.

And the SEC competition he'll be going up against has more to offer than his competition in the PAC-12.

The sign of a great coach is a high level of sustained success at a place that historically has not experienced such levels of success.

Johnson has been perfectly mediocre at Arizona.
