The only people that think Memphis is cool are people from Memphis

Nashville gave us the terrible, woke country music that we have today.
ETA:
If there is one positive that Memphis has over Nashville it’s that Memphis has St Jude Children’s Hospital.

God no. Why would we care about a city in North Mississippi?

One is the true music city and the other just has mostly country music.

Sadly, Nashville seems set to rival Austin.

I've spent some time in both the Nashville and Memphis areas.
I've never felt more scared driving than in the Memphis area, road signs were very unclear. With that said, Memphis isn't as bad as people are making it out to be. While there are certainly some bad areas that I avoided, the Germantown area and just outside of the city are very nice.
Nashville was fine. A little expensive and overcrowded, but it was clean, weather was good, and the landscape was actually much better than I expected.
Would probably choose Nashville if I had to move back to one, but while Memphis wasn't great by any stretch of the imagination, it wasn't God awful either.

No contest. Back in the day, Memphis was a real center of commerce, more of a sideshow today.

As a plant manager (now deceased) once joked about Memphis...
You can troll from a back of a pickup driving through town baiting your hook with a chicken wing or watermelon and catch way over your limit

Nobody is "from" Nashville. Fun place tho. You can buy a house in a crime ridden area part of Nashville for 500k. The same statistically crime ridden area in Memphis or any other part of the state is about 350k dollars less than 500k

Memphis: down and dirty blue collar inferiority complex
Nashville: man bun having, soy drinking, pseudo intellectuals

Said about Chattanooga:
It isn't fair that no one has mentioned the I-40 bridge over the Mississippi in Memphis. Closed for a crack all the way through a steel beam, it remains closed and traffic has been a mess since 5/11/2021. There's been precious little follow up in the news media about what repairs will be made, when they'll be made and how long until it reopens. That simply puts Memphis on a "you can't get there from here" pedestal that few other cities have equaled.

Memphis is a complete disaster. Probably the best thing that could happen would be an 8.9 on the New Madrid Fault. Morons and thieves in city government, and those who elected them, over the last 20-30 have destroyed it.

Memphis crime is no different than any other Mississippi River city between New Orleans and St. Louis, for the most part the crime is in the city proper
Memphis suburbs are fantastic with very good public schools
Memphis industry is
Fed Ex
Great medical research
3rd largest Inst Fixed Income community in the country

Honestly, I haven't been in the bad parts of Memphis, but the good part of Memphis that I spent a lot of time in I definitely felt safer than I do in any part of New Orleans, so they have that going for them.
In New Orleans, it doesn't matter if you're in Uptown, Garden District, Mid City, or Lakeview, it feels like crime can strike at any moment. Didn't get that feeling in Memphis.

Memphis natives hate Nashville. And I can't say I blame them.
Posted on 6/20/21 at 12:02 pm to TexasTiger08
Not really. Neither city thinks about the other all that much.

Memphis has Elvis
Nashville has not Elvis
Memphis > Nashville
Nashville has not Elvis
Memphis > Nashville

I grew up in the Memphis burbs. I don’t think this is true.

I'm fairness, I think most of Tennessee despises Nashville because of all the transplants
