So if you were a single, middle aged guy wanting to take a vacation alone where would you go? And somewhere in the U.S.
Just as an example, I went to Portland, OR by myself a few years ago and really enjoyed that experience.

What do you like to do? adventure, relaxing, eating, drinking, chasing arse?

Drinking and good eats would be a huge plus, perhaps with some live music options...I'm not a good gambler.
As far as adventure goes, yes but nothing extreme. Perhaps available activities that might be off the beaten path a bit but not too far from civilization.
I'm not an outdoorsman but enjoy walking/hiking/fishing. Also maybe some historical/architectural type stuff to check out.

You could hit up Memphis & Nashville. Provides good live music options of different genres in both cities, some historical stuff in both places, and a decent food scene.
Chicago has some good blues clubs, food scene is good there. Not sure how open anything is there right now, so if it is a trip in the near future may not be the best idea.

Hmmm...If I had it do over again...
Save your coin and see the world. You'll find it isn't that expensive. I can't comment on the Thailands or Phillipines of the worlds, but they're obvious for such a scenario.
I would suggest Croatia LINK or Ibiza Spain.. Hvar Island for one.
Or Majorca Spain.

If it was me I'd leave the country and go to Thailand.
Went there for 18 days on my honeymoon and want to go back.
For US, I'd probably do a Jackson Hole/Yellowstone/Tetons trip.

Traveling as a single person is so much cheaper than anything else, I've done it a few times and if your flexible you can find great flight deals

I never did it when I was a younger lad, but have been a couple times now...What about Charleston SC?
Good to great food, bars, fishing, historical location, architecture is amazing as well as the tours. Beach not far away at Folly Island.

NYC. I went there by myself in my 30s and it’s a great place to be on your own schedule. Plenty of things to do and see.
San Diego alone would probably be good too. Zoo, Sea World, Padres, breweries, beaches, etc.
Boston has lots of history and you can catch a Sox game.

Boston - after a few days in the city you could rent a car and see parts if the NE.
San Diego - lots to do there
Vancouver, BC, Canada - not the US but close.
Africa - not sure which country but somewhere to go on a safari.

How about San Francisco?
Large city with one of the most iconic landmarks in the world, the Golden Gate Bridge. You have Alcatraz that is very historic and interesting. You could align the trip with a Giants home game. You could rent a car and drive south through the Big Sur region of the California coast - or even east to Yosemite. I don't know much about the music and restaurant scene, but I wouldn't think it would be lacking in those areas.

Rental car rates are just brutal right now and hotels are high too. That's a tough pill to swallow if it's just one person as opposed to a family or couple.
But Europe is definitely a great budget option for solo travel. Great public transportation options, and a wide variety of cheap accommodations in good locations. Lot's of great museums and attractions too. I've done a few solo trips to Europe where I only spent $1000 for a week.

I did a 7-day trip 2 years ago and my flight + hotel was less than 800. Then I just walked and used public transportation, I did everything I wanted and went out at night. Was awesome,

I spent 5 days solo in NYC in my mid 30’s after my divorce. Had a ball.

Chicago. Great architecture and sites. Great food. Probably could find some music somewhere (depending on their current state of covid restrictions). If you wanted fishing our outdoor activities, I'm sure something on Lake Michigan could be lined up.

Just daydreaming since I’m not single.
I think I’d just drive cross country and see what I see.

If US, then how about Hawaii?
Reason I ask is subscribe to this service call FareFinder. Just got this notice out of Nashville. Quite likely to same prices apply to other Hubs. Use Google Flights to experiment if interested. Note: These are anomalies that get corrected by the airlines fairly quickly. They may or may not be there still.
Hi [ ] Nashville round trips to Honolulu dropped to $315 for some dates in September through October. These are the lowest fares we've seen in 118 days, much lower than the average $800.
THESE DEALS ARE AVAILABLE:
September 2021: Sample Date ($316)
October 2021: Sample Date ($315)
These prices are in USD and are accurate at the time this email is sent but are subject to change quickly.
