Think about compensation like this, and it will always make sense. Super easy.
1) How rare is the skill or talent the individual possesses?
2) How much money can that skill or talent make someone else?
If the answers are "very", and "a lot", the person will be very well compensated.

They are paid what they are worth. Sports United people. Most people watch some sport, and it brings in a lot of money and attention.

They get paid a lot of money because they spend a lot of money.

I assume this reply was meant for the OP and not me. I’ve not said anything about athlete compensation.

It’s supply and demand.
But I do think it shows how screwed up our priorities are in America that an NFL minimum salary is ten times that of a teacher, firemen or police officer.
But hey, capitalism.

Obviously on its face yes it looks ridiculous, but they get about half of total revenue and the majority of players arent getting crazy contracts.
If a movie makes 200 million shouldnt the actors get a decent cut of that?

Quit hating with your unathletic arse

their salaries are literally based on revenue sharing percentages

more than that they are given way too much air time for their political and social grievances.

BS, nothing is free. You really have to work hard for your freedom and freedom has many aspects.
1. economic freedom - If you are in poverty or choose to remain in poverty, your economic choices will be limited. Go to the hood, do you see freedom?
2. health freedom - if you are obese and unhealthy, you can't do certain things
3. Critical thinking - if you believe eveything from TV, are you really free?

They are paid what they are worth. What do you propose happen, the franchises give most of their money to the government?
Your criticism should be people care about sports so much they are willing to spend a lot of their time and money on it. If people cared far less about sports, these teams wouldn’t be raking in cash to pay these athletes millions in the first place. Not that I feel that way, but it’s a more valid criticism.

In a sense of societal values? Yes
In terms of economics? Absolutely not.
There are literally millions of people qualified to be policemen, firefighters, and teachers. There are less than 10,000 qualified to be professional athletes and less than 1/10 of them are good enough to be household names.

Honestly, athletes are pretty low on the list of people who make more than they deserve. It’s hard work and, in some cases, does physical damage they have to reckon with later in life.
If we’re going to complain about things like this we should probably start with social media influencers and skanks with OF accounts. Bottom line though, you’re worth what someone is willing to pay you.

Anyone agree? God given talent but millions is too much.

Like NFL Sunday Ticket. MLB extra innings. Or just listening to a broadcast on the mlb app. If you're a true NFL junkie you can spend thousands of dollars on sports a year.

They’re paid too much in the sense that they’re too valuable to actually put their bodies on the line the way they used to. Which is why they got so highly paid to begin with. Now they load manage and are softening up the physicality of the sports because they can’t afford to lose those players to injury because they’re worth too much.
If that makes sense. Used to be guys didn’t have nearly as much on the line so they played hard. Now we clearly see guys score big contracts and then coast because in reality they’re getting paid no matter what. Basically every player is turning into Roger Dorne from Major League.

No, because I like capitalism. I, the consumer, spends my money on their entertainment services. They in turn pay their bills, players, and employees based on their income.
Capitalism is boss.

I think it’s hilarious they make that many millions and still find a way to go broke
