You’re going on an extended hiking trip somewhere far off the grid. What are you carrying with you to defend yourself against wildlife (including large bears) and any humans that might try to rob you, kill you, or make you squeal like a pig?

bear spray. I've had to shoot a pistol at a charging pig before. wouldn't want to trust my shooting if it were a bear. glock 19 for humans.

If bear are in play?

Probably a large caliber rifle, .22LR pistol, and some Skittles.

If no bears and I'm not hunting, probably a .22LR backpack rifle and a 9mm and some Skittles.

If I'm hunting, then whatever caliber rifle is appropriate for the game and my 9mm... also Skittles.

I like Skittles and they won't melt like M&Ms.

EDIT: I get the bear spray, but I want to have something that I can try before it gets close enough for chemical warfare.

I have a .357 magnum which is consider minimum.

When I was looking into this sort of thing, glock in 10mm with hot rounds stuck out to me as a good option

Unless I am in grizzly country I am not carrying anything other than a pocket knife (unless I'm hunting)

Blackhawk 45 colt w/ 255gr hardcast

Eta: I have no delusions about protecting myself from a griz with a handgun, nor do I carry a handgun when I have a rifle.
