Trappers Lake was nice and cool though. All you have to do is drive up to 9000’.
I'm south of Leadville and it's pretty toasty here at near 10k. Got 79 and will be well into the upper 80s by the end of the afternoon. Not brutal by any means but hot for the elevation. That SW wind is downsloping me to the higher temps I think.

stationed in 29 Palms, CA in the early 90s. It would hit 115°-116° all the time. It's freaking hot
The stumps is a miserable place in boots and utes. Is the Last Oasis still there?

I was there in 2017. Flew in on the 19th. We saw a lady walking her dog with booties on its feet because of the heat. Stayed at the Desert Blue Wyndham resort and the pool was awesome in the heat.

Yes, it's a dry heat, but that's still miserable and they are still living in a desert.
Ehhhh
I’m willing to assume you never been in that dry a heat (~5% humidity) and what it does to how it feels.
I’ll take 115F @ 5-10% every time over 95 at 95% humidity.

There isn't a kid in Clark County, NV with a zit as dry as the air is. Of course, their skin will look like saddle leather by the time they're 35.

You do realize they can just drive less than an hour up to Mt Charleston where the temps are like 30 degrees cooler?
One of the dumbest things I’ve read on here in a while

How is that dumb, it’s a higher elevation. Just pointing out you can easily escape the heat for a day trip if you want. Similar to driving up to higher elevation in Flagstaff from PHX
I have friends that moved to Vegas from BR and they go to Mr Charleston all the time in the summer.

It’s dumb to assume everyone in an entire city can drive up a mountain whenever they want.

Must be nice to have means.

So how do weeks of 100 degree weather not have your pool as warm as bath water?
Posted on 6/13/21 at 4:12 pm to SoFla Tideroller
Fuuuck that.
I've seen it 110 before, can' imagine how shitty 120 could be.

Yeah, many years ago the wife and I went for an early morning run in Vegas in July. The hookers working the street corners at 7:00 AM were surreal. So were the bank signs showing 111 degrees. It was pretty damn warm for a morning run - but didn't feel anything like 111 degrees. But they were accurate - crazy heat wave.

Know what they do have to deal with? Straight line wind storms. And that shite fricks up the power infrastructure something fierce.
Try spending time in Phoenix with no power at 100 degrees. That is partly why some people I know moved back to LA.

But it’s a dry heat....
I remember being in Vegas once and they were bitching about the humidity being up to 49%..
I was in Phoenix in October. Decided to go for a leisurely 4 mile round trip walk from my hotel to the Capitol. It felt good outside but was total sunshine and in the 80s. I found myself VERY thirsty by the time I got to the Capitol(2miles). I was amused by this noticible difference in dry heat but only b/c I had access to plenty fluids in the city.
It's a very different heat there.
It's more deceptive and insidious than the blatantly oppressive Gulf Coast Heat.
I can see how people get stuck in bad situations by not preparing enough water in that climate.

You realize I have lived here for 15 years? Wind storm knocked my power out one time. Was back up in like an hour or so.
Meanwhile...after hurricanes, etc with downed trees, etc. in LA...how long are people usually without power?
Over dramatic much?

When it gets over 90 our humidity hovers at 50-60%
