EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM PDT /10 AM MST/ MONDAY TO 8 PM PDT /8 PM MST/ FRIDAY...

* WHAT...Dangerously hot conditions with high temperatures of 108 to 116 in many locations on Monday then increasing 2 to 3 degrees on both Tuesday and Wednesday and holding through at least Friday. Temperatures are likely to exceed 120 degrees by Tuesday in locations like the Colorado River Valley and Death Valley National Park.

* WHERE...Portions of northwest Arizona, southeast California and southern Nevada.

* WHEN...From Monday morning through Friday evening.

And over night "lows" will still be as high as 88 degrees in Vegas.

Yes, it's a dry heat, but that's still miserable and they are still living in a desert. At least our heat and humidity provides a landscape of forests and fauna.

You do realize they can just drive less than an hour up to Mt Charleston where the temps are like 30 degrees cooler?

Not quite. 120 would be an all time record.

Specifically, the Las Vegas mercury hit its highest ever, 117 degrees, on July 24, 1942, July 19, 2005, June 30th, 2013, and June 20, 2017. The second highest temperature in Las Vegas is 116 degrees. This has taken place on 17 different days, most recently on July 7, 2017.

I was stationed in 29 Palms, CA in the early 90s. It would hit 115°-116° all the time. It's freaking hot

First time I ever went, was during the 1st of September. It was hot, well over 100 degrees. Flew back home to Alabama, got off the plane, it was in the 90's but the humidity had me looking for A/C in a big way. 95 degrees coupled with 90% humidity is no joke.

That's right. A pizza oven is also dry heat.

Can those who have lived in this kind of desert environment tell us how this affects things like your car, the infrastructure of your house, your ability to do anything at all outdoors? What about if you are in the shade? How much would that help?

Thanks.

Well there should be an excessive heat warning in Louisiana then because it literally feels like I'm entering a sauna when I go out of my front door. It seems like the heat and humidity around here is the worst it's ever been.

Maricopa County is one of the fastest growing right now. So many people and businesses relocating here.

So obviously the heat isn’t that big a deal. If it is hot, you stay indoors as much during the day. Drink more water. Wear sunscreen. Have a pool. Most restaurant have huge covered patios with nice misters that makes it comfortable if you want to sit outside.

As for your car...,get a sun visor to place in windshield or covered parking. Your battery maybe lasts 2-3 years max here so always buy a battery with a decent warranty. Windshield wipers crack with heat so replace every year.

You know what people don’t have to deal with here?

Floods, hurricanes, tornadoes. Basically no natural disaster that will seriously damage their home.

Temps are noticeably cooler in the shade
