I-10 from Houston all the way down to Nola is awful. With the exception of the stretch between Beaumont & Orange. It’s not as bad between SA & Houston considering the volume of traffic it carries.

For best interstates in the region I nominate I-49 from Lafayette to Shreveport. I-20 from Shreveport to Dallas. And last but not least. I-45 from The Woodlands to Dallas. For an interstate connecting two of the largest cities in the country, this stretch ain’t bad.

You are crazy, the non I20 parts of 59 are some of the most laid back interstate miles you can possibly drive with plenty of decent places to stop

My nomination is I35 from Waco all the way down to SA

I-20 just west of the GA line was under construction for what seemed like 10 years. And it still sucks.

I've never had a problem with it outside of the sheer boredom of the Mississippi portion. It's certainly the much lesser trafficked of the two NE routes out of Louisiana, with the boredom of the S Alabama portion of I-65 up to Montgomery about equal.

I-4 going through Orlando is the worst and there isn't a close second. It's always under construction and the traffic is absolutely horrendous no matter what time of day you drive on it.

As far as sheer boredom goes, I-95 from Jacksonville to Richmond is bad. It is a flat landscape and you don't see anything other than trees for several hundred miles.

Have you ever driven the stretch of 40 between Nashville and Memphis?

Oh frick that stretch. And all trucks that camp out in the left lane, then slow down massively every time they get to a hill.

I-75 in north Florida I-10 to the turnpike is the biggest tPOS interstate in the US even though the Big Daddy Don Garlits museum is in Ocala on the route.

Most of the time this stretch is cake.
The road is in great condition although it is under construction every few years to keep it that way.

Now if a strong hurricane is approaching, yes it is probably the worst stretch in the US. I've had friends evacuate to Atlanta from Orlando and take 20 hours to reach it.

As someone who has driven almost all the interstates (no i5 experience)...

95 (literally anywhere)
10 from houston thru NOLA back to 12
75 from macon to kennesaw/and from ocala to Tampa
90 thru chicago (much better than previous, but still makes the list)

The exact worse interstate spot on earth is the turn on i10 in baton rouge right after the bridge...
Like...what the actual frick

20 from the Georgia line west to Birmingham is damn near undriveable.

At various points in the past 20 years it's also been a pinball death trap, with a body count to show for it. 20 has several bad/dangerous stretches.

I drive 20 a lot...it's just not as bad as 10 or 95...but the body count is high.

why does I-70 just end in the middle of nowhere
Because I-80 goes to Reno/Sacramento/SF and otherwise there ain't shite west of I-15 through that part of Utah/Nevada.

I-20 through Shreveport and Jackson is really bad. If you somehow make it through without losing your load, you better stop somewhere and tighten up your straps.

I have a relative who works for DOTD. He said the repaving plan for I-20 in Shreveport has been in place for 20+ years, but they can't get federal approval because there is nowhere to divert the traffic. I asked why not 220 and he said 220 has some limitations for heavy haulers so it's not an option.

For traffic? I remember it being hilariously bad and I'm born and raised in an Atlanta commuter family, so I've got street cred on traffic issues.

With the exception of the northernmost 20 or so miles in Georgia, it is an absolute piece of shite! Literally can’t drive in the right lane for much of it.

Tell us you've never left the south without saying it.

Because without it going from Denver you'd have to go down 25 to 40 in Querque then across 40 then back up US93 from Kingman to get to Las Vegas. 70 is a total pain in the arse in the winter or hauling heavy truck loads - I've done both, it's the worst.

You can say the same thing for I-55 all the way through MISS. One boring drive…. Also isn’t I-10 from San Antonio to El Paso like just a total drag…….
