If the fishing pole was so great, he would have kept reeling the fish all the way in instead of abandoning the pole and just hand pulling the fish in.
Still cool that he built it.

You have no idea how many fish he caught. This show edits things in such ways to not let on how much food the stronger players have stored. Guys like Jordan and Roland had so much food it was crazy.

Who cares, the main thing about the fishing pole he made is that it allowed him to cast out a good distance.

I know the guy had a heart attack but I have my suspicions about the 35% heart capacity.

It’s more likely they told him his ejection fraction was 35%. Normal ejection fraction is 55-70%

No shite. Roland is the best survivor on any show ever so far imo. He was just in his element.

No one has ever built a sturdier shelter, hands down. That shelter would hold up a large pickup truck on the roof. He shoots a large male Musk Ox (maybe 700lbs ???) with an arrow from a very long shot and hits him in the rear upper leg. He was waiting for it to bleed out but realized he needed to go ahead and kill it before he ran out of daylight, so he rushes the wounded animal like a Viking Bezerker with a buck knife while it is still standing/spinning around and he stabs it to death while filming it with his GoPro. Simply an incredible real life survival scene. He butchers and carries the carcass in maybe 10 four mile round-trip journeys back to his camp over rough hilly terrain in two full days. His super heavy duty bear & wolverine proof meat locker/chest was also badass.

I would add on Roland, they had to really reach to even hint that he was struggling mentally. Dude was doing fine.

I would add on to your add on, he is a loner without strong personal/family relationships(pretty much anti-social). His person at the end was his sister.

Jordan has every bit as much skill as Roland(Maybe less hunting, but more outdoor living skills). However, Jordan is genuine nice guy with a wife and kids.

Roland has the perfect mentally/life style to dominate Alone.

Oh yeah I almost forgot about Jordan. Perhaps he and Roland are co number 1s for best all time survivor on a survival show. I recall that Jordan charged a wolverine that was eating his food stash and killed it with his axe. Now that is badass to charge and kill a wolverine.

Both Jordan and Roland excelled pretty much their whole series. I can't recall if Jordan had any issues missing his family. I think he did but was never in any jeopardy of tapping out over mentality/missing his family issues.

I would like to see an all star Alone series with the best Alone survivors/winners including Roland, Jordan, Alan Kay (season 1 Alone winner from Blairsville GA) and maybe Matt and EJ from Naked and Afraid. I still think Roland and Jordan are the best. In a show down I think Roland would likely win as he could probably last for over a year without missing anyone.

I think you have to add the frostbite girl from last year in there too.

She was no frostbite and starting the game 10 pounds heavier away from making 100 days no problem.

I'm aware. This isn't my first time watching Alone.

and i wasn't saying it like it was a big negative. It's still awesome that he made it. I love it. it allows him to cast out accurately, which is important.

Theresa has an interesting skill set. But damn she burned a shite ton of calories digging in that shelter.

I thought she was nuts for doing that but look at her 10 items:
quote:

1. Sleeping bag

2. Pot

3. Knife

4. Saw

5. Food ration

6. Ferro rod

7. Snare wire

8. Fishing line and hooks

9. Bow and arrows

10. Paracord

I'm always suspect when a person takes food rations over a tool that can last indefinitely. In this case she might have thought about this when she decided to build this shelter.

With that said, she seems to be more into the experience than actually winning. I may be reading that wrong but I suspect she will get to a point where she's accomplished what she hoped to accomplish and call it an adventure and tap.

It makes sense she brought the food ration after seeing her dig out that pit.

I thought the dude that built the boat was nuts too but when he gets the outrigger he should be good. I remember that one dude that built a boat a few seasons ago caught a shite ton of fish even though he got pulled for dropping too much weight. IIRC his diet was unbalanced maybe? Anyway he still had tons of fish.

I also really like that foraging skill set. Being able to spot the edibles out there is a really nice advantage to supplement calories etc. This season is setting up nice with a wide array of skills.

Yep, I had the same thought as well. Too damn emotional for that type challenge.

The one that had me laughing the most was the black dude a few seasons back that was all brag prior to leaving for the challenge saying over and over that if a bear came around it had better look out because he was a bad arse.

First day, not long after he was dropped off, he saw bear shite and tapped out. Didn't even see a damn bear, just bear shite and that was enough. Looked the total fool for that move.

Pit shelter looks great but was a shite ton of work. Roland’s rock house is still my favorite as he used natural terrain for three sides and just needed to build a roof and front. Always wondered why more contestants don’t make use of hillsides and spaces between boulders.

Desmond

We were watching the new seasons the other day and my wife wanted to watch one of the old seasons while we waited for new episodes.

So I had to go back to Season 2 just to watch Desmond bitch out 6 hours after drop off

That dude was so scared of the woods you'd think he'd never been in a forest before.

Roland busted is arse to build that shelter. That thing was so solid it looked like a bomb shelter.

The biggest concern about the Pit Shelter will be rain and water getting it. Once it starts snowing it won't be as much of a problem. I hope it works.

I was wondering if she was going to trench it or how she was going to keep water out
