The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force has lowered the recommended age of colorectal cancer screenings to 45 due to a rise in colorectal cancer cases among the younger population.
An independent group of experts that advises the nation on preventive medical services has lowered the recommended age for adults to begin regular screenings for colorectal cancer from 50 to 45.
The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force has given this recommendation for people without symptoms who are at average risk of getting colorectal cancer.
Those with a personal or family history of colorectal cancer, of inflammatory bowel disease or of a genetic disorder that makes them more likely to get colorectal cancer, such as Lynch syndrome, are encouraged to get screened sooner than age 45.
The USPSTF updated its guideline primarily because more people are developing colorectal cancer at a younger age.

Had one at 36. Long family history. No health issues, pretty clean diet, not overweight, don't really drink, don't smoke, had 9 polyps. none were to the point of precancerous, but i don't think i'd have made it to 50, the recommended age at the time.

Had my first at 50. Was not excited about the prospect but drinking the prep was the worst part.
The procedure was not bad at all, don't remember a thing. Propofol rocks.
All clear and the Doc said come back in five years whether or not the insurance says to.

I've had it. There's nothing to it. It's actually kind of relaxing if you like propofol.

As someone who had colon cancer at 36 I suggest all get a colonoscopy at whatever age.

I'm still hoping that at some point in the next 9 years the technology will be reliable enough that they can just quickly CT scan my arse to see if there's anything to worry about or not.

The Texas A&M study suggested starting at age 18

Is this something my wife's boyfriend can check for me?

Turned 50 this past year and did it and the worst part was drinking that disgusting crap that flushes you out.
Best part...Propofol. It was glorious...for those 6 or 7 seconds I was still awake to be embraced by the warm hug which overtook me thank to it running into my veins. Literally looked at the Anesthesiologist and said, "Wow...this is awesome." He smiled and said, "Yeah, it is."
I'm definitely not still thinking about it...at all.

How would you like to know that every morning you get up, get dressed , drive to the office only to open boxes of shite and analyze them all day .
My Dr said we would rotate colonoscopy / Cologuard
I shat in the box last time and got all clear

I'm 38 and they just told me they want me to get it done now because of family history. Not looking forward to it.

Had my first last year at 45. Had a scare from a CT scan. Diverticulitis...... no the C word

The prep is the only bad part of the entire thing. The taste of that stuff is ungodly.

You don’t perforate your colon crapping into a box and chasing “pre-cancerous” polyps only makes the doctor richer so I’ll take my chances with Cologuard. Until you see blood in your stool (unless you are an Aggie) no reason to worry about it.

Turn 45 this year. Great timing, U.S. Preventive Services Task Force. Doc already told me that this year's physical will be the first with a prostate check, and now I potentially get a colonoscopy, too? Outstanding.
