You’re a god damned professional pitcher. You should be able to throw a pitch and not hit someone in the face without using a substance. Maybe take a little off and throw with control.
I’m not saying this pitcher is in the wrong, your statement is just bullshite.

Dude took a 90+ fastball to the face and got up and walked away.
What a tough sob.

Damn...a few centimeters in the wrong direction and that’s irreversible eye damage...scary.

Back in the day when I played baseball, that was EASILY my biggest fear. Thankfully I never endured something like this. That is scary as hell.

Still surprised that Bryce Harper didn't suffer more damage from his fastball to the face last week. Crazy stuff!!

I think this is less on Manfred than the players/organizations. Fundamentals are not taught anymore.
Ron Darling was talking about it during the game. He was talking about the shift and how Atlanta doesn't use the shift because their pitching staff doesn't pitch to a location, but moves the ball all over the strike zone. He also discussed how there are very few true pitchers in the game who will change speeds with location. Most pitchers and hitters just "grip it and rip it" to steal a line form Tin Cup.
Organizations want pitchers to throw 100+ MPH and they want hitters to hit 40+ HRs. The combination of the two is why batting averages are down and Ks are skyrocketing.
MLB needs to get back to fundamental baseball. Using all parts of the field. Bunt, steal bases, pitch.
If today's generation actually learned and watched "80s style" baseball or small ball as they call it, it is actually more exciting than waiting for the 3 run HR.

I don't understand why no one wants to address the only solution that works: push the outfield fences back.
If you don't like a league where every AB is either a HR or a K, then you need to make it harder to hit HRs.
The only other solution is to change the balls.

They did that this season. Sluggers are still trying to hit a HR every AB so as a result home runs are down compared to 2018 and 2019 and strikeouts are up.

I think it will take time for the hitters to adjust to the deadened balls. The more alarming part is that these deadened balls may incentivize pitchers to have even less control. Miss over the plate? No worries. As long as the hitter isn't perfectly timed its more than likely gonna stay in the ballpark.
This current season is on pace to obliterate the HBP record

I’m starting to think you have to penalize pitchers for HBPs. Maybe some type of suspension for every 5 HBP with headshots more heavily weighted.

That sound when it hits him is just awful.

thankfully, he's alright.
It shook everyone on the field. And me too!

frick that's scary as shite.
I remember the time I got knocked out by a baseball when I played as a kid. Ball hit me in the eye and I passed out. I didn't come to until sometime later with my mom freaking out at the coach. I had a black eye, but ultimately I was able to finish the practice.
I got knocked up from missing a doggone pop-up fly ball. The idea of taking a 90 mph ball straight to the face is terrifying, and quite frankly I'm surprised he was able to walk it off 45 seconds later.

Plunk a guy in the buttocks and it's the same as the current rule. Anywhere else but the head and all runners advance one base even if they aren't forced.
Headshot is the equivalent of a home run. (Nobody's going to stick their head into a fastball to get the automatic runs.)
