Recently had multiple issues with bmw that easily wouldve paid for a warranty.

Got a new hyundai and the warranty was quite reasonable. Tire warranty as well. I've had more plugs and patches on tires in lousiana that seemed like a no brainer. The electrical crap in these new vehicles, I can hardly fix. Figure itll pay off.

Picked up the palisade at sticker. Which was best price in 6 dealers I checked.

Have a 2020 Honda Pilot and a 2018 Honda Pilot. Bought extended warranties for both due to all of the electronics in new cars.

Sign up for piloteers.org. There are 3 dealerships in the country that sell hondacare warranties for almost cost and you can get their info from piloteers.org. I went with Hyannis Honda for both. 120k miles/8year warranty 0 deductible for $1,360.00 for the 2020.

Agreed unless its a full size diesel, I got 5/180 on a Cummins for 3k, when you're looking at 5-10k for fuel pump/DEF system whatever bullshite issues

You're gonna want Honda Care with these new Honda Pilots, if you plan to keep it past 36k. Our 2017 has had so many issues. I purchased it a year ago just before it hit 36,000 miles.

That being said I've never bought extended warranty at the same dealership I bought the vehicle. That's always a major markup.

We bought from Hyannis

Bought an AcuraCare warranty from them back in the day for my Acura TL. It's best to buy these warranties after the fact and not from the dealer you can get them much cheaper at places like Hyannis. I think mine was good for up to 120k miles but I never needed it sold the car at 98k miles.

Insurance question.

You buy an extended warranty on a new car. One month later, the car is totaled in an accident.

If the accident is the fault of another driver, will their liability insurance pay you for the loss of your extended warranty? If the accident is your fault, will your collision coverage pay for the loss of your extended warranty? Or was your warranty money completely wasted?

Dang we were looking hard at a pilot but didn’t realize it had all these problems. We really like the Kia telluride but I’m hoping prices come down toward the end of the year

Someone can correct me, but no, you're out the warranty. Insurance is only covering the value of the car, not any value of a warranty. Now if you have gap insurance that could cover negative equity you had in the car loan vs. car value, which potentially could be caused somewhat by having an extended warranty? but that's more coincidence than "covering the extended warranty"

My wife loves the car itself. It's just the transmission system air and the car completely shutting down multiple times a week while driving that sucks. Multiple battery changes and in the service center multiple times and they say they can't figure out what's wrong with it. Super annoying

I got that routine for the gap insurance. He seemed so pissed that I wasn’t going to give him an extra $800 for something useless. My logic is if they fight tooth and nail for you to get it then it’s a scam.

My approach on the warranty is that, if you have the money for repairs, either decline outright or give the a price to match.

Keep in mind that you can change your mind at any point and buy one elsewhere, as mentioned in this thread.

I have a 2012 Pilot that has had ZERO issues with 145K miles. We've owned two Odysseys without any issues.

I always tell them I'm not comfortable spending money on theoretical issues, I'll just pay for repairs out of pocket.

Your warranty is always cancellable for a prorated amount.

Eta: source I totalled a few side by sides.

when my wife bought a Lexus RX they pushed hard for extended warranty. I flipped their script around and said if an extended warranty is so important then we are having second thoughts on the reliability of this car and walked out. We got a call the next day with them offering knock another $250 off the price.

Lol. I never said it was minor. Our local dealer is a piece of shite and "can't figure out what is causing the error" or they "can't get it to fail" which basically means they drive it around and can't get it to duplicate the issue. It's bullshite. Last time they had it for 4 days and couldn't figure it out.

We got a new Highlander on Wednesday last week. Overall I was very happy with the deal and the dealership. I got them to come off 2K on their price, plus the $1K from Toyota, and also got them to increase our trade in value by 2K from their original offer. I was pleasantly surprised given the inventory.

We were financing outside of Toyota, but yes, they did give me additional warranty sales pitch items, but he went thru it in about 10 minutes with me saying no thanks, and we finalized.

It's just part of buying a car, they make more money from the extended warranty stuff than the sale I think.

I pissed the f&I guy off when I said nothing but "no" the entire time. I warned him prior but he insisted and persisted. It's what they get paid to do though.

I bought my wife a 2018 Pilot Touring, it had 45,000 miles. Usually tell them no for an extended warranty but the last two Hondas I bought her we did get the warranty. I travel out of state all the time for work and wanted her to be comfortable if it broke. "Honey, just take the thing in" and then not worry about it. As for the money, we paid about $1400 for up to 120,000 miles and 5 years for everything except the tires and rims. They asked for a ridiculous price for that.

Good to know. I never buy them, but if I did that was one concern, that the car could be destroyed long before the EW even kicked in.

So, if the car has a basic 3 year/36K warranty, and it is destroyed in year 1, would they give you back 100% of the EW price since the EW never began?
