I think you are missing why he wants to live in Tigerland
OP, he should be fine in the more updated complexes towards Nicholson. All of the shady shite is at the back of tigerland. I wouldn’t make it a habit to leave valuables in my vehicle but having a large dog will be a big deterrent

one unit in a four bedroom apartment. Each unit has its own bathroom. Share D kitchen and common areas. The $600 is inclusive of utilities. Not sure about the dog but can find out tomorrow and let you know.

Some people graduate, not sure what they really want in life, so they go to grad school and rack up debt. Others move back home while they figure it out. OP’s son’s choice is as good as any. No shame in taking a little more time to figure it out at 21, especially if you’re paying your way.

That's all fine and good, but I wouldn't want to be shot or robbed why I was trying to figure that shite out.

I’m still confused by him missing his friends but doesn’t want a roommate.
He could have a nice place for $750 a person if he had one.

It would also be loaded with hot chicks which I seriously doubt you have at the tiger land place
That Tigerland place is going to be complete shite

Maybe don’t live near LSU? I’d imagine prices aren’t as high further away

Yep. The only people that live in 1BR tigerland apartments are trashy or foreign exchange.

Oh, I agree.
I believe its the dog limiting him (great dog by the way)and that most of the others party a lot and he really isn't into being drunk most of the time.

I see nothing but trouble headed for a graduate who will be living in Tigerland and is getting a concealed carry weapon. Honestly, he is now a grown arse man and there is not much you will be able to say that will change his mind about any of it.

My ex lived in tigerland for a while.
There were people fighting in her parking lot every single day.
Take with that what you will.

he should look into buying a condo
Honestly, this. My wife bought a condo her senior year of college off Jefferson. I moved in two years later when we got together and we lived there about another year together. The equity she had allowed us to buy our current home when we otherwise wouldn’t have had the money for a down payment.

Tigerland apartment
My college ex lived in a few different Tigerland apartments and they were all total shite. No way I’d want to live there after graduation. In her last one, there were no less than 10 illegals living in a 2 bed/1 bath in the unit next door. One night her wine opener broke so I went next door and asked if they had one. Without hesitation or speaking a word...one of those baws pulled out a .45 and opened the bottle with the slide. Impressive as frick, but also scary as frick.

He can only afford $750/month rent and you are recommending he come up with several thousand dollars for a down payment in an inflated market and hope he gets lucky and runs into no repairs for at least the first year? What about insurance costs?
Buying is a fricking horrible idea for someone like him.

He shouldn't buy something with a $750 monthly payment on the loan. But something for $500/month is doable. Chances are the monthly payment after PMI and insurance will be less than $750. Plus, he can rent out his spare bedroom if he decides to get a roommate.

That'll be a nice shack
