USA: Nicest vs. Rudest Places

What are your picks?
Nicest: In my experience, Huntsville, Alabama and the area surrounding it has the most pleasant folks. It's hard to pick, though. Had a lot of good experiences around the country. Americans are pretty friendly outside of large cities.
In my opinion, Jersey is home to our country's most unpleasant people. They blot out the nice folks they might have.
"Sneaky" rude: I gotta go with Nashville. That place does not at all feel "Tennessee friendly" anymore. Totally different place than the smaller town I visited back in the 80s.
"Sneaky" nice: Pittsburgh. Yes, really. Western Pennsylvania is a lot different than Eastern.

Any big city has tons of dickheads especially as it pertains to traffic and public transport
Most airport employees in these cities also suck

I would rank the people of New Orleans as the nicest to tourists as long as they don't have an encounter with a robber or mugger.
I can especially tell this by the way opposing fans are treated at the Superdome in contrast to how badly Saints fans can be treated in other cities.

my daughter lives in Boston and I’ve visited there dozens of times.
I love to spend time there but it is up at the top of places with the most unpleasant native genpop

Gotta throw in something for Nebraska.
Last summer I was in Nebraska (just passing through on my way to/from more interesting places) and pulled over to the side of the road to fly my drone low over a huge corn field toward a distant barn. As soon as I stepped out of the car I was replying to a text on my phone and someone stopped and asked if I had car trouble and needed help. I thought that was considerate.

Nicest - I'll list 3 places. Madison, WI. Denver. Pittsburgh.
Rudest - Philly, without question. Dallas not far behind.

I have to be honest, I’ve never left a place thinking the people there are rude. Don’t get me wrong, places can be much more friendly than others (namely in the southeast, obviously) but most people I’ve encountered from all over are nice.
I often find people confuse “rude” with “blunt”.
Being in Boston, I definitely get why people would find townies rude. They’re in your face, brash, and move at a quick pace. But honestly it’s not intended as rudeness, it’s just different. Most of them would love to shoot the shite with you and offer you a drink.

Nicest: Mormon Country
Worst: NYC and Greenwich Ct.
The people in Greenwich have this flat cold way of speaking too. They sound heartless.

i dunno man, i found people in chicago to be very friendly. especially compared to big east-coast cities like NYC.
as far as passive aggressive and annoying, seattle has to be up there.

Friends of ours grew up in Jersey. Her parents have since retired to Arizona. They don't fly so they were back in Jersey and went to get the car washed.
Attendant is taking the vehicle.
Mom "Please don't forget to roll up the windows"
Attendant "No shite lady"
Mom "I've missed this"

This seems like an introduction to a story with many threads. I have questions

I rarely run into outright mean people while traveling. Most people most places are pretty decent.
The list of exceptions are all expected:
Salt Lake City, UT (Mormons are super nice to non-Mormons outside of Utah, but mega douches in Utah)
New Jersey, literally everywhere in New Jersey
New York City, NY
Philadelphia, PA
Los Angeles, CA
Everywhere else I've gone, the worst I have encountered is detached indifference. The most indifferent place had to be Phoenix, AZ. It feels like everyone there is so self-conscious and self-absorbed that they simply cannot notice or care about anyone else around them.
"nicest" places, I guess, would probably be New Orleans, Pittsburg, and Knoxville.

In the 3+ years that I've lived here, it seems like pretty much everyone that I've met is incredibly friendly. Not sure what it would be like to live in a city like Portland, Salem, or Eugene, though.

I have lived in ATL, CHI, NYC and now Philly.
I would say there is very little difference between any of these places. I honestly think I experience more bizarre behavior when I go home to ATL.
