Breaking Update: Maricopa County deleted a directory full of election databases from the 2020 election cycle days before the election equipment was delivered to the audit. This is spoliation of evidence!

I'm sure looking at those databases would have breached the security of unrelated county files or irreparably damaged the machines

Depends how thoroughly they have been deleted.
If they deleted these files then scrubbed the machine by writing over every empty sector on the HD, deleting it, then repeating it multiple times, it can be fine.
With the kind of idiots they have doing this? Probably recoverable in part if not in total.

If the directory was just deleted and the the recycle bin was emptied, the data is still recoverable. They would have to run additional software to make the data unrecoverable.

True, but I fully expect a "well, we tried. Ah shucks." response.
Obstruction of justice and tampering charges should be handed out like "stimulus" checks for everyone involved. Someone will squeal when faced with PYINA prison time.
