It's been 21 years since his last 2000 CWS title in Omaha. For you youngsters that have no clue: Skip in 18 years of coaching won 5 CWS championships, had 11 CWS appearances, won 7 SEC championships, has a record of 870 wins with 330 losses, and has a .754 winning percentage in NCAA tournament competition.

Yet today, these newer fans want LSU to continue to stick with CPM. The reasons vary: He's won a NC, He has such a high winning percentage, he turns boys into men, LSU can't hire anyone better, He deserves to go out on his own terms, etc.

It used to be LSU baseball fans could book their trips to Omaha every year. Now it's a very rare occurrence. Make no mistake I want CPM GONE. He can either retire, or be let go. I don't care which. I've tried making this point with prior sarcastic postings, but today many people don't understand sarcasm.

No one gives a shite about your opinion.

You don't need to start multiple threads about it.

Can’t wait for Alabama fans to post threads like this on the SEC Rant years after Saban retires (or dies).

Where are you seeing fans that want to see CPM stay? It seems to be pretty unanimous that its time for him to go

Did Skip have to go up against teams like Vandy, Arky, MSU, UF, and Ole Miss on the reg? I'm honestly asking because I agree Skip is the GOAT but how easy was the SEC back then?

I know Bama had a good team in the 90s.

I mean shite LSU has to beat (and so do all the other schools) TOP tier programs just to win the SEC. I feel like in CPM's tenure he's been at the top or 2nd or 3rd his entire time here.

This isn’t 1990s baseball anymore either. Much more parity.

1. It is time for Mainieri to go.
2. The content of your post actually shows you’re the one who doesn’t recognize Skip’s greatness (by thinking it could/should be replicated).

Your definition of "very rare" is a bit broad, don't you think?

Since Mainieri has been at LSU only two HC have more CWS appearances during that timeframe than him: Mike Fox (UNC) and Kevin O'Sullivan (Florida). So I don't think I'd say a CWS appearance has been "very rare"

That's not to say it doesn't appear a bit of apathy has set in over the program, nor that LSU could maybe benefit from a chance. But your "very rare" description is ridiculous hyperbole

So you are telling me that you truly believe the only difference between now and 21+ years ago in the entire sport of college baseball is JUST the head coach at LSU? Not the evolution of equipment, rules, recruiting, influx of fan interest and thus money, resulting in a greater emphasis on winning by other programs, tv dollars, et al? Could the fact that you can't even put a full roster on scholarship like you could in the 80s and 90s have something to do with it?

I think its time for Paul to move on as well, but to be so god damned simple minded as to think that it is JUST the coach's fault that we aren't in Omaha every year makes it clear why LSU has not yet called to ask your opinion on the matter.

Time for Paul to go. Coach Glenn Cechinni at Barbe High School would be a great fit, if he were up for it.

Even Skip will tell you about the evolution of parody that has occurred... He talks about it quite often. Not cutting Paul any slack, but it's a different environment.

To borrow a Bum Phillips quote, "I don't know if he's in a class by himself, but I do know when that class gets together, it sure doesn't take long to call the roll"

Skip was an all-time coach at a time when maybe a dozen, at best, college programs were respectable.

There likely won't be many other coaches like Skip, and there definetly won't be other times with few respectable programs.

We can probably do better than CPM 2021... but if we are going this coach and this time to Skip and the 80/90s... we will always fall short.
