Why the gaslighting, NYT?
The probably of these NYTs reporters and DC establishment politicians pumping gas in their life is almost zero. Most of these people don't own cars and never pay attention to gas prices like normal people who fill up once a week or two.

Looks like it is right about where it was in May 2017.

In candor, that mention was based on a Twitter post from a breaking news site (usually reputable I think) but I have no underlying source for the data or what they're looking at

I think it has more to do with a few of her fluff pieces on Trump, which they viewed as her protecting her access to him and his staff, but that's neither here nor there. Every White House reporter has been guilty of that across several administrations.

Can you link these hosts of liberal critiques of the NYT? Thanks

Just put it out there
The media establishment was far more hostile to the Trump administration than it is/will be toward Biden - agree or disagree?

So when you fill up you compare prices from four years ago?

He was responding to the claim that gas was at a 6 year high when it clearly isn't.

Agree. I also think the Trump administration was far more hostile towards the media than the Biden administration will be, so it cuts both ways. And many times that hostility towards the Trump administration was pushing back on their blatant lies.

It appears we are delving into a timeline problem. When topics are debated/discussed based on a timeline both sides can find initial conditions or starting points to bolster their argument. For example it happens ALL THE TIME in the climate change debate. A specific example, the climate alarmist are starting with the U.S. wildfire record in the mid 60s. The mid 60s was the low period of burn acreage in the U.S. So of course their chart looks bad and they blame it on climate change. But if they would have started in the late 19th century when the forest service started recording burn acreage they would have to show the burn acreage during the 1930s and 40s which is 10 times the current burn acreage. That starting point shows decreasing burn acreage and nullifies their climate alarmist message.
The NYTs appears to be selectively picking their starting date. But to the common person who buys gas weekly or bi-weekly their starting date is the last time they purchased gas.

When we have ample evidence (not particularly subjective) that the media is overwhelmingly left-leaning, why wouldn't Trump be hostile to the press?
And we've already seen examples where legacy media is taking completely opposite approaches based on who is in the chair (China travel ban - xenophobic just like Trump! India travel ban - wise choice by the statesman!).

Our country has become the worst in the world with media propaganda.

Well, I think an adversarial relationship between the media and the White House is a good thing. I don't think shouting down reporters and calling them "fake news" and labeling the media as "the enemy of the people" as being adversarial in a constructive way, and I don't think we'll see that from the Biden administration.
And let's be honest, Trump's hostility towards the press wasn't because of any perception of them being overwhelmingly left-leaning. It was because they reported things that were not flattering to his fragile ego.

Yeah you have to wait until tomorrow and then his statement will be true. Right now it is just about at 7 year highs.

Trump was petty, let's be honest.
I support Trump's hostility towards the media, I probably don't always support the reasons for that hostility.
But American media is a corrupt institution that is venturing more and more into propaganda territory. All Americans should be hostile to media outlets that regularly lie to them and foment violence and destruction, as we saw last Summer, as we saw with economic losses from COVID dishonesty, etc.

Well, they are the enemy of the people. That's a broad brush, but it's within the bounds of truth if we're talking about MSM/legacy outlets. They may not be your enemy, because you're aligned with what they're selling. But they're openly hostile to me, my family, my beliefs, etc. A huge swath of the country is in a cold ideological war with dominant media outlets in America. Not sure what you'd call it when they will openly describe your (previously neutral) beliefs as racist/violent/problematic or openly advocate for the loss of your rights or openly promote the government taking more from my family to redistribute to others.
